Congratulations to our own Javier Carrillo and P. Kayleen Ramirez for their team's win of 3rd place in Google's Social Good Competition and Microsoft's Honorable Mention at #ShellHacks 2024, Florida's largest hackathon hosted by INIT FIU! We are so proud of their incredible work and talent they've contributed to the Drowsy Driver team, an innovative project that incorporates facial detection and eye/mouth movement analysis to monitor driver fatigue in real-time. Kappa Theta Pi - Sigma Chapter had the incredible opportunity to host distinguished leaders in the tech industry for our members, and the insights shared were nothing short of inspiring! Scott Sikora - Senior Director, Google - 2/16/24: Scott walked us through his career, giving us a glimpse into the experiences that shaped his journey to becoming Senior Director at Google Cloud. His valuable experiences, especially in landing a big tech internship, provided invaluable lessons for our aspiring tech professionals. DJ Davids - Creative Strategy Lead, Meta - 2/27/24: DJ, a distinguished graduate of the University of Miami, engaged our members with his perspectives on what aspiring tech professionals should be prioritizing while still in college. His take on building a personal brand for career success resonated deeply, and his perspective on the nuances between big tech giants and startups was eye-opening. A massive thank you to Scott Sikora and DJ Davids for sharing their expertise and enriching KTP with invaluable knowledge!

We recently partnered with Code the Dream, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering diverse low-income communities through digital careers. As part of our collaboration, we have participated in a recent Mock Interview Workshop. Through this initiative, we provided mock interviews to help students refine their skills and prepare for future job opportunities. We are committed to supporting initiatives like Code the Dream that promote access to quality education, mentorship, and professional development for all. This past weekend our newly initiated member Sofia Perez-Baux participated in the FilmGate Interactive Media Festival. Here, Sofia’s team at the VESL studio presented 5 projects, and were awarded Best of Florida for Mangrove City for its educational sustainability and preservation efforts. We are so proud of Sofia’s work in the XR industry. Keep up the amazing work Sofia!
