The demonstrator is about updating and improving how we engage in democratic processes, while still staying true to the effective ways people have been involved in their communities in the past. ?? The tool allows users to: ??Upload and store data - securely manage user-provided data for structured analysis. ??Retrieve relevant data - use Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to access key information from multiple sources. ??Apply and test profiling cases - integrate profiling techniques to refine decision-making processes. ??Generate and compare policy papers - create single-page policy papers and compare outputs using adjusted prompts. ?? The second episode of the 'KT4D Talks: Civic Participation meets #AI' series entitled 'Can Artificial Intelligence Truly Inform #Voters Without Distorting #Democracy?' is OUT! As Artificial Intelligence (AI) increasingly integrates into the #electoral process, its reliability in informing voters and shaping democratic decision-making comes into question. Can AI accurately process complex political issues, or does it risk oversimplifying, misinterpreting, or even distorting information? To explore these challenges, KT4D interviewed Jennifer Edmond, Project Coordinator of KT4D, who raises serious concerns about AI’s role in voter education Jennifer warns that AI cannot replace human judgment in political interpretation, as it may misrepresent political speech, amplify biases, or undermine voter agency. Democracy depends on active, informed participation, not machine-generated outputs. First Rules of the #ArtificialIntelligence Act Now in Effect – What It Means for #Democracy & #Governance As of February 2, 2025, the first rules of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) are now in effect. While these initial regulations focus on risk assessment, #AI literacy, and prohibited practices - *an essential aspect remains underexplored - the cultural dimension of AI governance. KT4D highlights the importance of this cultural perspective, emphasizing that it should play a more significant role in shaping policy instruments What’s Now in Effect? ? AI System Definition – The European Commission will publish guidelines to help determine whether a software system qualifies as AI ? AI Literacy Initiatives – A living repository will be created to foster knowledge-sharing among AI providers and deployers ? Prohibited AI Practices – A limited number of AI use cases deemed unacceptable risks to citizens’ safety and fundamental rights are now restricted The KT4D.eu policy brief published last year argues that the current risk assessment framework underestimates these broader effects, overlooking how AI is received, resisted, or adapted within different communities.
