We are excited to share that our Westfield Washington Public Library project received a Merit Award last night at Indianapolis Chamber Monumental Awards! We are thrilled to celebrate this honor with the library, the township trustees, and the fantastic team that made this project possible. If you walk into the Westfield Library on any given day, it is teeming with people taking advantage of the amazing community resource that is the Westfield Library. The project reached above and beyond the call to create a vibrant public hub for the community.?The new library features high-quality community amenities and expands its ability to host more community programs, larger events, more diverse education opportunities, greater access to technology, and so much more.? ? Congratulations to the Library, the Veridus Group, Inc., and Meyer Najem Construction for this prestigious recognition of excellence and responsible stewardship. Please join us in recognizing our very own Stuart Godfrey, who has earned the Accredited Learning Environments Planner Designation (ALEP) from the A4LE-Association for Learning Environments (a national organization focused on the intersection of learning and place). The ALEP credential marks excellence in the understanding of spaces where learning take place. It identifies those who have met rigorous eligibility requirements demonstrating core competencies in the practice of planning and designing educational environments. It is considered one of the highest qualifications of its kind in our profession, and Stuart is one of five individuals in the state of Indiana currently holding this certification. Congratulations Stuart Godfrey, AIA, ALEP! A4LE Midwest Great Lakes Region

The start of the school year looked very different at Greencastle High School this year! The final and most transformative phase of our Greencastle Schools project has officially welcomed students into its stunning new spaces. One of the most exciting changes is the expansion that connects the High School to the McAnally Athletic Center, improving safety and providing additional needed spaces for athletic, academic, and extracurricular function. This also created a public-facing entry and gathering area that welcomes parents and community members to school functions with a sense of pride that now properly represents Greencastle School’s commitment to a modern and exceptional education for all. While the project at the high school was the most visibly transformative, our work at Greencastle Schools has spanned five years and touched every school in the system with varying levels of improvement that have elevated and diversified the spaces where high quality twenty-first-century learning take place. Security improvements were made across all schools, as well as efficiency of energy consumption. Congratulations to Greencastle Schools and Superintendent Jeff Gibboney, who was a visionary for this effort from start to finish! krM Architecture is honored to announce two projects receiving 2024 statewide design awards from the Indiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects! (AIA Indiana) Both the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library, and the City of Anderson Transit Center have been recognized with a Merit Award as a two of the best new-construction projects, over $5M, designed in Indiana in the past small handful of years. Since this is the second AIA design accolade for the Anderson Transit Center, we thought we would share additional information about the Glendale Branch here! The project relocates the Glendale Branch into its own permanent home after serving the community for decades at various locations. Nestled into a residential area, the intent of the design was to respect the context of the surrounding neighborhood while creating a strong civic presence as an anchor in the community. Envisioned as several residential-scaled masses, array around two central axes of daylight, the building's exterior masonry cladding speaks both to the surrounding brick homes and to the institutional feeling of many Indiana limestone public buildings. One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was working with the library to ensure priorities in stewardship of natural resources as well as energy and material conservation goals were accomplished in the building design. The Glendale Branch is on track to receive its LEED Gold Certification from United States Green Building Council. Thank you AIA Indiana!

The new Glendale Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library will officially welcome the public with a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, March 30th! Dedication remarks take place at 10:30AM with an array of exciting activities available at the open house until 4:30PM. Through this project, the Indianapolis Public Library relocates one of the busiest branches in the system, from its previous location in the Glendale Town Center to a new, standalone building embedded within the residential neighborhood. The design respects the scale of the surrounding neighborhood while still giving the presence of an important civic and community building. Our team worked with the library to ensure priorities in stewardship of natural resources as well as energy and material conservation goals were accomplished in the building design. The new library will have easier access for patrons, more daylight and study spaces, and modernization of overall service capability. The branch will also have drive-up material returns, access to public transportation, a community meeting room with a capacity of 100 people, and LEEDv4 Silver Certification. Please join the library in celebrating the new Glendale Branch! More details about the grand opening: https://lnkd.in/gCHEKgcT The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation

We have officially been in our new Indianapolis studio at the Varsity Lofts for a little over a year! The Varsity is an adaptive infill project designed by krM Architecture, that has given new life to a challenging site in the Old Northside Neighborhood of Indianapolis. It was originally a one-story concrete block building, that was home to the Varsity Lounge, a bar that held important social significance in its hey-day, but fell into disrepair after closing its doors. The project challenges the idea that small-scale mixed-use is no longer feasible, maximizing the small site with 4,000 square feet of office space on the ground floor and eight apartments above. The center of the upper floorplates is carved out to form an elevated courtyard, providing each tenant their own front door and direct access to outdoor space. krM's office pulls daylight deep into the space and primarily only uses glass and level changes to create semi-private divisions to foster comradery and collaboration. Simple materials allow the exposed structure and building details to be the highlight of the space, fitting characteristics of a daily space for architects. We are excited to announce that our City of Anderson Transit Station project has received a 2024 Design Excellence Award from the Architectural Institute of America’s Indianapolis Chapter. The project was awarded the highest honor in the category for New Construction - greater than $5M. Thank you AIA Indianapolis! ? The new Transit Station is the fruition of a nearly decade-long effort of multiple city agencies for a new multi-modal transit hub for local and regional bus routes. The one-story north block of the building serves as the Transit Station, and the southern three-story mass is leasable tenant space. Design of the Transit Station incorporates modern detailing yet integrating into the surrounding context through authentic, durable materials and a focus on the pedestrian experience. ? High goals for energy efficiency and sustainability were set early on, which ensured they were a focus of the project. The mechanical system uses a geothermal-sourced heat pump system for the heating and cooling needs, relying on 24 vertical underground wells that were carefully coordinated on the crowded site crossed with underground utilities. A solar PV array, located on a portion of the roof, was sized to produce enough energy to account for Transit Station’s entire electrical, thus, the city-occupied portion of the building operates at net zero. The project is LEED Gold certified, a credential given by the U.S. Green Building Council. AIA Indiana City of Anderson
