Today, Krieger Lewin LLP filed an amicus brief in the D.C. Circuit on behalf of 53 individual people whose family members were murdered in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, as well as September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, an NGO (twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize) that provides support and advocacy for victims of the 9/11 attacks. Amici urge the Court to reject the Defense Secretary's attempt to withdraw plea agreements reached by the dedicated Military Commissions prosecution team and approved by the Military Commissions Convening Authority -- an attempt that has already been deemed unlawful by two military courts. These extraordinary plea agreements offer some hope of finally bringing long-delayed finality and a semblance of closure and justice to the family members of the murdered victims. KL lawyers Nick Lewin and Ben Perotin filed the amicus brief, with assistance from KL analyst Aditi Chatradhi.
