Please join us in congratulating Matthew Krause on his 10 year work anniversary! We sat down with Matthew to talk about his tenure at Krause, his accomplishments, and the many lessons learned over the years. Q: What is the key to staying successful in your 10-year tenure? A: "The key has been a combination of adaptability and a deep passion for innovation. Over the past decade, I’ve embraced new trends, challenges, and opportunities, always staying curious and driven to deliver unique and inspiring solutions." Q: What is the most important lesson you have learned in the last 10 years? A: "The most valuable lessons I’ve learned happened when everything was “going wrong.” It is in these moments where we have the choice to give up or use it as fuel for growth. It is the power of collaboration. While individual creativity is important, the most successful projects are born from a team effort, where diverse ideas come together to create something truly remarkable." Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of? A: "It is an interesting thing summing up one’s experiences over the course of 10 years. I’m incredibly proud of our team and leadership’s ability to push creative solutions and not being satisfied with the “status quo.” Over the decade, I was given opportunities to use my creativity nature to lead several in-house advancements to the company. This has not only brought fresh, creative solutions to our internal team, but also experiences to our clients that has had a lasting impact on Krause’s outreach. Each one stands as a testament to the importance of a company that allows you the ability to stay curious about the world around each of us and the community at large. Hard work and passion are at the core of our entire team." Q: With a decade of experience under your belt, do you have any advice to up-and-coming individuals in your field? A: "Be a shark, in the best possible way. Adapt to change, stay curious, seek out your interests, embrace challenges, never stop moving forward, and learn all you can, while you can."

The 9/11 Memorial, located on eight acres of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex in lower Manhattan, is a place of remembrance and reflection. In 2003, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation launched an international competition to design a permanent memorial, receiving 5,201 submissions from 63 countries. A 13-member jury selected "Reflecting Absence" by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker in 2004. Their design features two large waterfall pools set in the footprints of the former North and South Towers, surrounded by bronze parapets inscribed with the names of the 9/11 and 1993 bombing victims. The pools, each nearly an acre in size, showcase the largest manmade waterfalls in North America and create a tranquil space that symbolizes “absence made visible.” Although water flows into the voids, they can never be filled. The sound of the cascading water makes the pools a place of tranquility and contemplation, separate from the bustling noises of the city. ??: Matthew Krause #krausephoenix #september11thmemorial #neverforget #nyc

The Desert Medical Campus project involved the $23 million redevelopment and revitalization of a 4-acre campus in Mesa, Arizona, encompassing four medical office building (MOB) structures totaling 398,000 SF. The neglected campus at 1432, 1450, 1500, and 1520 S. Dobson Road underwent a comprehensive transformation aimed at enhancing pedestrian and vehicular circulation, improving outdoor spaces, upgrading interiors, and revitalizing the overall aesthetic. Key enhancements included the addition of modern steel, three-story lobbies in the 1450, 1500, and 1520 buildings, along with new exterior steel shade structures providing shading for outdoor seating areas. The project also introduced new hardscape, landscaping, lighting, signage, and wayfinding elements, as well as the development of a new pedestrian main artery between the 1450 and 1520 buildings, connecting the campus to a nearby hospital. A notable feature is the construction of a steel canopy structure with solar panels above the second-floor plaza of the 1520 Building. This canopy not only provides filtered shade for the plaza but also generates solar power to partially offset the energy needs of the café and building. Additionally, the project involved upgrading two existing concrete parking structures, adding new waterproofing, topping slab, lighting, and paint. The Desert Medical Campus project faced several major challenges in planning, architectural design, construction, and governmental approval processes. Despite these challenges, the project team was able to overcome them through innovative solutions and effective collaboration. The project began in 2018 and was originally scheduled to be completed in 2021. With little to no existing information or drawings, the team had to selectively demo parts of the parking structure and research the existing conditions. The project successfully revitalized the campus, creating a vibrant and healing environment inspired by Mesa's Fiesta District.
