On June 10, 2024, Kraemer North America and our Partners at Granite Construction (GKJVII) was awarded the Lafayette Street Bascule Bridge Project by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).?This project was a major milestone since GKJV participated in 2 other Bascule Bridge Projects in the Bay City area for a Private Owner.?MDOT has this project listed as expedited and all work needs to be completed within an aggressive time frame with multiple stages and challenges.?The project closure started December 2, 2024, and will continue until project completion.???The work includes complete removal of the Lafayette Bascule Bridge and replaced with another bascule bridge in the same location as the existing bridge. All contract work associated with Pre-Stage must be completed within a 2-month continuous traffic closure and no other work can be started until pre-stage is completed.?After Pre-Stage has been completed all work associated with Stages 1&2 could start and need to be completed within a 30-month closure.?Once Stage 1&2 have been completed and all the mechanical has been installed, Stage 3 has to be completed within a 2-month period which includes commissioning, site restoration, other miscellaneous items and demobilization. There are multiple challenges that come with an expedited project one being completing our demo cofferdams before the fish spawning season. As depicted in the pictures below our crews are diligently working 7 days a week to try and beat the fish spawning deadline. The field leadership has stepped up to lead the charge and has completed a lot of work in a short amount of time.??Hats off to our crews for stepping up and doing what is necessary to make it happen. “Success is no accident. As we close out the Women in Construction week celebration, Kraemer North America appreciates all the women that work with us. To close out this week we want to introduce Kassie Watson, who’s heavy civil journey started in Northern California in 1991. Kassie worked on notable projects such as: ·???????Hwy 17 & 85 highway interchange in San Jose. ·???????Seismic Bridge Retrofits in Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco. ·???????Hwy 101 Ramp Bridges to and from the San Francisco airport. ·???????Hwy 580/680 Interchange in Dublin/Pleasanton, including Bridges over the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Kassie spent 10 years working in California, and in 2002 Kassie started with Kraemer on the 7-Mile Highway Expansion project along I-25 from Thornton to Longmont in Colorado. Kassie has worked on notable projects with Kraemer such as: ·???????McCaslin Pedestrian Bridge with elevator towers for RTD ·???????All of Kraemer Mountain West Design – Build Projects beginning in 2009 o??120th over Hwy 36 in Broomfield o??US 6 Design – Build in Denver o??I-25 & Cimarron / US 24 Interchange in Colorado Springs o??I-25 North Express Lanes 2018-2024 from Johnstown to Ft. Women in Construction week is here! Kraemer North America is celebrating all the hard-working women that contribute to who we are. Whether it's boots on the ground on our projects or working behind the scenes as the backbone. We appreciate all the dedication that these ladies have brought to the table. During this week we would like to highlight these ladies and celebrate them! To kick off this week, we want to introduce Laura Baxter! Laura started her journey in heavy civil construction in 1989 during her first internship. She found love for the industry and started full-time in 1993.
