Last week, KQED was honored with an Excellence in Business Award in the category of Diversity & Inclusion from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. Eric Abrams and Candace Joy Rucker, M.S. accepted the award on behalf of KQED. The Excellence in Business Awards honor “businesses and organizations making significant contributions to the community.” Each year SF Chamber of Commerce members, board members, press and newsletter subscribers have the opportunity to nominate organizations for five award categories. In selecting KQED for the Diversity & Inclusion honor, a committee used criteria that included Mission and Values Alignment, Leadership and Representation, Workplace Diversity and Inclusion, Equitable Practices, Community Engagement and Impact, Staff Development and Education and Program and Service Impact. KQED’s Employee Resource Groups, DEI curriculum and staff training, and internal and external outreach efforts to continue to diversify our workplace and leadership were highlighted as some of our impactful efforts. In his acceptance remarks, Eric recognized the DEI Council and the entire KQED team in their efforts to foster an inclusive culture.
