Recently, I had the privilege to present a keynote address to a large Electrical Services company who brought leaders into their Austin headquarters from over 45 branches across 3 states. ?? The focus was on effective communication & sharing actionable tools to build trust with internal and external stakeholders. ? I'm thrilled to share that their CEO provided glowing feedback after my keynote: ?? “Katie was great! We received a ton of positive feedback from our team. A lot of people are looking to implement the lessons in their daily lives which is exactly what we wanted. So it couldn’t have gone better. On Valentine's Day this week, I had the honor of conducting a 4-hour workshop for leaders with the Texas Association of Regional Councils (TARC). We focused on what it takes to be an effective advocate and how to best deliver and receive feedback. There were so many incredible moments with this group, but the one that stands out the most is after we unpacked and practiced 3 clear feedback models: 1) Balance Buckets, 2) S.B.I. method and 3) Start, Stop, Continue. When debriefing, it became eye-opening for many of these leaders that were using an old method taught 15+ years ago which had them "bury" the constructive/negative feedback in the middle of two compliments. But let's be honest, that's not a sandwich most of us want to eat. Said more bluntly, it tastes like... ??. It stands out because these leaders were SO strong and emotionally intelligent & were focused on creating psychologically safe environments for their teams. Yet, the way they were taught to give feedback has evolved for modern leaders and the modern workforce. Think how much more effective they’ll be now! ??This moment spoke my "love language" on Valentine's Day because I got to see in real-time the power of modern-day leadership development. ?Punchline: Push your Learning & Development teams and managers to continue investing in modern-day leadership programs so you're up to date on the best research and practices.
