CHR is proud to be a part of the Connect for Cancer Prevention Study, known as Connect, an extensive, federally funded study led by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The study aims to learn more about what causes cancer and how it can be prevented. A new CHR study, co-led by Frances Lynch, PhD, will test a behavioral therapy program for youth with anxiety and depression. Participants in the program, which will be delivered in a primary care setting, will come from west coast health clinics that serve a diverse population of uninsured and underinsured patients. The program has the potential to expand access to mental health treatment and reduce disparities. A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, co-authored by CHR's Stephanie Irving, Padmavati Dandamundi, and Allison Naleway, shows that #RSV vaccines are up to 80% effective at reducing hospitalization and emergency room visits in older adults. This finding supports CDC’s recommendation to vaccinate older adults against RSV. RSV hospitalizes up to 160,000 older adults every year. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gyXTq-RR

A new study at CHR is testing an alternative to the Pap test for cervical cancer screening. CHR Investigator Amanda Petrik's new study, Self-Testing for Cervical Cancer in Priority Populations—the STEP-2 Trial, funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), seeks to increase cervical cancer screening rates in safety net clinics. Nearly 30 million people in the U.S. get their health care in clinics like these, which provide care to patients regardless of ability to pay or health insurance. About 90% of patients who get their care in safety net clinics are low-income, and about 64% are members of racial and ethnic minority groups. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g4grW9mi
