We are grateful for volunteers like Melissa Murfin, PharmD, BCACP, PA-C, DFAAPA, who work with CHR staff and the ClinGen Resource Actionability Working Group to complete early rule-out curations.
We are keeping a spotlight on the Actionability Working Group as they welcome new volunteers to their curation efforts. Hear from a current Actionability volunteer, Melissa Murfin, PharmD, BCACP, PA-C, DFAAPA, who has been with the group since 2019! What inspired you to volunteer with Actionability? I love genetics work! In my position as a healthcare provider educator, I teach pharmacogenetics annually. I appreciate the opportunity to work with ClinGen on genetics topics outside my typical expertise. What is your favorite thing about Actionability’s work? Understanding more about the heritability of rare conditions. I enjoy reviewing penetrance and screening recommendations as that is information I can share with students. Has your volunteer work with Actionability given you experience that has supported your main work? Yes, I primarily teach PA students, but have also taught nursing and pharmacy students. What I learn translates into what I can teach. Thank you Melissa for all your contributions to the Actionability Working Group!
