On Saturday, June 29, Pico Branch Library turns 10! We have mixed feelings about the steady march of time, but are thrilled to be part of ten years of community building, intergenerational learning, and a lot of joy. Join us from 11 AM - 2PM for an opening by the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra Mariachi band, readings and signings by local authors, giveaways courtesy of the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library, refreshments, screen printed tote bags, and much more. If you’re lucky, there might just be a few commemorative Pico Branch library cards left! More info: https://lnkd.in/gHKKTxfJ

关于我们
Belief in the power of social interaction to improve daily life underlies our interest in sustainable neighborhoods and rethinking of housing, community and educational settings. Our design process is collaborative and structured to help individuals, organizations and cities realize their goals. It draws on the active participation of Principals Hank Koning, Julie Eizenberg, Brian Lane and Nathan Bishop and is supported by a design and technical team who are similarly invested in humanist values and environmental agenda. The result is an influential body of work that has been extensively published in the US and abroad, and earned over 150 awards for design, sustainability and historic preservation.

Great to see the University of Melbourne Student Precinct landscape come to life!
The University of Melbourne Student Precinct embodies collaborative efforts, from the collective design process involving multiple landscape architects and architects, to the creation of a landscape that realises values developed through the First Nations co-design process. ? Landscape Australia highlights the transformation of the 18,000m2 space, which had been incrementally developed over many decades, with little accessibility or publicness, to a more open, accessible, and welcoming place for students, staff, and visitors.? ? Speaking to Jocelyn Chiew, ASPECT Studios Global Design Director Kirsten Bauer emphasised the reparative qualities of the project. “We were keen to connect to Country in a place where that has been obliterated. The removal of layers of building were key to creating a landscape of repair.” ? How can we address the housing crisis in a way that increases social equity? How can we use architecture and design to help achieve these goals? We're excited to be featured in "Housing the Nation: Social Equity, Architecture, and the Future of Affordable Housing"?(Rizzoli, 2024), edited by Alexander Gorlin and Victoria Newhouse, alongside contributions from economists, community organizers, lawyers, planners, and other architects. To bring the conversation from the page to the city, Julie Eizenberg will address the questions above and more with David Burney, Michael Gecan, Christopher Hawthorne, and David Troutt, moderated by Suzanne Stephens. Join us on April 8 at the New-York Historical Society, generously sponsored by Open House New York & The Architectural League of New York. RSVP and learn more at https://lnkd.in/da3a_PMH

Topping out with great partners! Malibu High School and a new approach to learning, resilience, and wellbeing are taking shape at the Morning Side campus. (our teen lingo advisors tell us our original "drop, lock, and top it" post pun is extremely dated... but it made our in-house crew laugh)
Another major milestone at the New Malibu High School (Phase 1) project was achieved! Last week on Thursday, March 21st, the topping out ceremony of the New Malibu High School was held. Excitement buzzed as the current and upcoming high school students came out to celebrate this momentous occasion. Element congratulates the entire project team, along with the school administrators, staff, the Board of Trustees, District representatives, alumni, and community members for making this possible. The future of education is sustainable, collaborative, and promotes wellbeing. We're excited to see Malibu High School recognized by the 2024 CASH/AIA CA Leroy F. Greene Design & Planning Awards!
We are excited to share that Malibu High School has been awarded an Award of Excellence in the Project in Design category of the 2024 CASH/AIA CA Leroy F. Greene Design & Planning Awards. Located between an existing middle school and a nature reserve, the school acts as a “hillside laboratory,” providing hands-on learning opportunities intertwined with the natural environment. The project is designed specifically for Project Based Learning by arranging specialty classrooms, seminars, laboratories, and collaboration spaces into sets meant for interdisciplinary learning. Rather than conventional by-department organization, this model supports interdisciplinary learning by co-locating program in “sets” of general purpose classrooms anchored by science labs, maker programs, and arts studios. Each set is served by collaboration spaces to encourage cross-disciplinary connections key to project-based learning. In partnership with Koning Eizenberg Architecture. @smmusd_official @koningeizenberg

Check out the progress on the Walnut Park Apartments! This apartment community will add 64 units of service-enriched affordable housing to Southeast LA in 2025, half of which will be reserved for people experiencing homelessness. Step by step, we're building more than just structures; we're creating homes, hope, and a brighter future for the community. Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Inc. Walton Construction, Inc.
