Last night, I had the privilege of joining several members of the Kohl’s team to celebrate a group of remarkable future leaders at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year Gala! Ahead of the Gala, we welcomed all the Youth of the Year finalists to the Kohl's Gifting Suite where the teens had an opportunity to pick out finishing touches for their outfits, tech gifts and more. It was so fun celebrating with all the finalists, who were also surprised with celebrity appearances including Charles Barkley! Kohl’s is a proud supporter of BGCA and its mission to provide young people with opportunities to develop leadership skills that will guide them throughout their personal and professional lives. It was truly inspiring to learn more about each finalist and their accomplishments. Congratulations to all the finalists this year! ??

As we gear up to serve millions of customers this holiday season, I sat down with Kohl's Director of Stores, Fred Hand. Unless you know Fred personally, you likely don’t know that he immigrated to the United States as a young boy. His courage, determination and passion are palpable in everything he does, and I’ve seen firsthand how his unique experiences have shaped the way he leads our store associates across the country. On World Mental Health Day, I’m reminded of how important it is to take a moment to check in with ourselves and each other. Mental health challenges don’t take a break, and neither should our support for one another. I’m incredibly proud of our continued partnership with NAMI, which plays a key role in creating a more supportive environment for our Kohl's family and beyond, and NAMI's work is essential, especially in raising awareness about the stigma surrounding mental health. Opening up and talking through challenges is a step in the right direction and I encourage everyone to check in with each other. By sharing openly and working together, we can continue supporting a culture where everyone feels empowered to seek support. Earlier this summer I met Susan Eisenbeil, a Store Manager at Kohl's Flemington, N.J. location, who shared something profound that stuck with me, “MS has given me so much more than it’s taken from me … It’s taught me to be a better wife, mom, friend, and leader." In 2010, while working on the sales floor, Sue felt paralyzed in her steps and was later diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) – a life-changing moment that she didn’t let define her. Sue’s experience taught her the importance of self-advocacy, empathy, and perseverance. As a member of our diverseAbilities Business Resource Group, Sue has found a community where she feels understood and supported, and she’s passionate about helping others feel the same. Whether she’s sending inspirational messages, putting a personal touch on a customer’s shopping experience or advocating for others, Sue strives to make every person feel valued. “We all carry a backpack every day filled with challenges, but it’s about finding the strength to leave that backpack at the door and be present for one another,” she shares. Sue’s journey is a reminder that we all have unique battles, and by sharing our stories, we create a workplace where everyone feels seen, heard and supported.
