In Fall of 2024, Kohler Foundation gifted the Estelle Ginsburg Collection to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. Estelle Ginsburg (1924-2023) created brightly colored and patterned paintings, screenprints, and wooden relief sculptures in her home studio in Woodmere, NY. Kohler Foundation worked closely with the artist’s son, Bob Ginsburg, to acquire the 54 works. Ginsburg, a Jewish artist, worked in an era when women were rarely represented in gallery exhibitions or permanent collections. Laura Bickford, curator at JMKAC explains: "The work of Estelle Ginsburg represents a singular body of work by an under-recognized woman artist, a focus of collecting for the Arts Center. After seeing some initial success, Ginsburg's favor began to wane. Rather than adapt her signature style of brightly colored, repetitive pattern-adorned women and interiors, Ginsburg doubled down." #EstelleGinsburg #KohlerFoundation #JMKAC

The Mavericks: John Colt, Kenn Kwint, and Theodore Czebotar in the Permanent Collection exhibition opens on November 15 at Miller Art Museum in downtown Sturgeon Bay. Each of the 41 pieces invite the viewer to explore the unique techniques that define the artists’ careers. Through Colt’s abstract compositions, Kwint’s bold expressionism, and Czebotar’s evocative landscapes, the exhibit highlights the diverse techniques and artistic depth of these figures, celebrating their contributions to modern American art and the Wisconsin art community. The exhibit will open to the public with a free reception on Friday, Nov 15 from 4 - 6 pm. The exhibit will be on display at the art museum, located in the Door County Library downtown, through Dec 30. https://lnkd.in/gDGZNVK2

The Kohler Foundation grant cycle closes this weekend. ?? Visit https://lnkd.in/gUSJGKkH to learn about our funding priorities and how to apply! One project we supported in 2023 was the Mead Public Library's workshop and concert with Jim Gill. Jim Gill’s distinctive music play captures the spirit of a family room and is an invitation to sing and play together. The professional development workshop focused on how educators can use interactive play in their curriculum and how to use music as a tool to strengthen self-regulation skills. The public concert went beyond a performance, got everyone grooving on Sheboygan's City Green, and provided a fun opportunity for families to sing, dance, and be silly together! Thank you to Mead Public Library for offering engaging programming that supports our community!
