"What has always been obvious to me as a patient has been, if left to its own devices, while each doctor is going to do the best they can, this system is not fostering a good experience for people with overweight and obesity, from the physical spaces to how doctors are trained in medical school on obesity," Brooke says. "So, I felt like if part of the solve has to be getting patients back into healthcare, we need to make healthcare accessible and better for those patients." Our Midwest/Central Medical Director Britta Reierson, MD, FAAFP, Diplomat Obesity Med was featured in this Verywell article about some of the latest updates in obesity medicine treatment and how a greater emphasis on developing oral options would improve access. “There needs to be a broadened toolkit available because we know that this treatment isn't one-size-fits-all across the board," Dr. Reierson said. "We need to focus more time and energy in developing GLP-1s in an oral form to make this [treatment] more sustainable, because there is a crisis in supply and demand with the injectables."
