What's your writing plan for next week? Take an honest look at the calendar. ??? What days will you work on your book? What time will you start writing? How many minutes will you write for? Example:? Monday at 7 pm for 15 minutes and Thursday at 10 am for 30 minutes. Put it on your calendar and protect that time. Writing a book doesn't happen unless you make time to write. ??

Think of a few authors you admire—the ones who have written books on similar topics to the book you are writing or have a business and life you’d love to have. Maybe it’s Glennon Doyle, Bessel Van Der Kolk, Martha Beck, Rachel Hollis, Gabby Bernstein or Mel Robbins. Your mission (should you choose to accept it ??), is to do a deep dive into all of the things that have come before and after their books. ??Scroll through old blog posts.? ??Take a look at how long their podcast has been around.? ??Did they offer one-on-one services when they were just starting out?? ??Look at how many years they’ve been posting on Instagram.? ??Have they had articles published in online or print publications? It’s easy to think that a bestselling author popped up out of nowhere. But there is massive truth to the saying, “It takes ten years to become an overnight success.” Many of the authors we just mentioned were writing blog posts, recording podcasts, speaking publicly, coaching clients one-on-one, and getting published in major publications for more than a decade before you ever heard of them—before their first book came out. After their bestselling books, they kept going, right? They’re still showing up daily in various ways. That’s because a book is a valuable part of their business, but not the entire business. Building an influential body of work happens by sharing one tiny bit at a time. One blog post. One interview. One coaching client. You can do this! New authors are making it happen all the time, and there’s no reason you can’t be one of them. #author #writer #writeabook #nonfiction

What's your gym style? (We promise this applies to book writing ??) Some people have no problem working out at the gym. They are internally motivated to drive there at 6:30 am on a Wednesday. They know how to use the cable machine and the assisted chin-up machine with proper form. They’re making progress toward their fitness goals on their own. Other people work with a trainer twice a week, every week, no matter what. They know that without those regular appointments, there’s no way they would make it to the gym. They like the support of having someone constantly checking their form and increasing the weight they’re lifting when necessary.? If you identify most with that first type of person, you might choose to write your book (or proposal) on your own before working with an editor. If you feel more connected with the second type of person, working with a coach as you write will provide accountability and feedback throughout the process. Let us know if you want to work with one of our talented book coaches!?

Should everyone work with a book coach? Nope! If you’re making consistent progress writing all on your own, our advice is to keep writing. A book coach is most helpful if: ?You work best with accountability. Since you’ll have regularly scheduled meetings with your coach and they will expect to review thousands of words of your writing before each call, you’re likely to prioritize getting words on the page. OR ?You’d like feedback as you write. Many authors want to know if they’re “on the right track.” A coach will provide guidance as you write, which may help you avoid major content edits later on. ??Ready to work with a coach? We've got the best book coaches in the industry! DM us and we will help you with your next steps!??
