When we don’t purposefully and deliberately choose where to focus our energies and time, other people: - Our bosses - Our colleagues - Our clients - Our families Will choose for us. Before long we’ll have lost sight of everything that is meaningful and important. We can either make our choices deliberately or allow other people’s agendas to control our lives. Spot on!
Criticism can feel personal. It can: - Shake your confidence - Derail your focus - Make you second-guess yourself. But not all feedback deserves your attention. Just as an Essentialist chooses the most important things to focus on, they also choose who to listen to. Not every opinion is worth your time. Some feedback clarifies your path, while other criticism only creates noise. The key is to filter—keep what’s useful and let go of the rest. Next time you face criticism, pause. Ask yourself: Would I seek this person’s advice? If not, don’t let their criticism shape your path. I teach 187,000+ people to differentiate between noise and essential on my free weekly newsletter. Great advice! I have heard that employers are conducting “stay interviews” along the way to ask probing questions of their people to make sure they are dialed in to why they are staying or what would cause them to leave.
Your success, my mission | 3x founder & CEO | Former CIO $4B company | DEIB ally | Sharing 24 years of hard-earned leadership & self-mastery wisdom
Why do companies spend $500,000 on hiring while their best people walk out the door? Instead of throwing money at your hiring problems, start solving your retention problems. Because smart leaders know: The cost of replacing talent is 2-3x higher than keeping your best people happy. It's time for some real talk: ? Exit interviews are too late ? "Competitive" pay isn't enough ? Free snacks don't fix toxic cultures ? Ping pong tables don't replace purpose Want to build a company that lasts? Start with these questions: ? Do you offer real growth or just empty promises? ? Does your culture build trust or play favorites? ? Are your managers leading or commanding? ? Do your people feel heard and valued? Most companies know the answers. They just don't want to face them. You see, great cultures don't just happen. They're built deliberately, daily. When you put people first: ? Innovation flourishes ? Productivity soars ? Loyalty deepens ? Success follows The brutal truth: If your best people are leaving, it's not them. It's you. Be the type of leader you'd want to follow. ?? Valuable?
