It's hard to believe that Knauth Search is already celebrating its first year! It’s been a while since our last update, but with good reason—we’ve been busy delivering results for clients across the medical device, biotech, and high-tech industries. A standout was placing the Head of Software Engineering for a client with one of the largest proprietary sensor networks in the world! -- Leadership and Functional Build-Outs: We helped clients not only find transformative leaders but also build entire new functions. For instance, we supported a Class III medical device client in preparing to launch a first of its kind device to market! -- Partnering with Private Equity & Venture Capital: We were selected by leading PE & VC firms focused on industrial technologies to support their portfolio companies. -- Cross-Industry Expertise: We've successfully supported a diverse range of sectors, rapidly mapping, recruiting, and securing top talent for our clients in areas such as Class III Medical Devices, advanced medical imaging, climate tech, geospatial imaging, IoT and advanced materials manufacturing. As we prepare for the year ahead, we are selectively considering new client engagements.? As we approach the conclusion of 2023, it's a fitting time to reflect and share some observations heading into 2024.? Here are a few of my top observations. A look back: --Leadership hiring was down this past year for numerous reasons. Growth plans halted, focuses shifted.?? --Deployment and access of capital became more conservative, marking the departure from the era of scale-at-all-costs to prioritizing sustainability and capital efficiency/effectiveness. --The emergence of a new tech frontier, driven by AI/LLM, adds excitement, and potential of transformative advancements. Thoughts on 2024: --Initial signals indicate hiring picking back up mid/end of Q1, with a notable increase in hiring for roles involving AI/LLM. --Employers should ensure their university recruiting team is connected into the research labs. --I urge candidates to begin side projects with LLM.?? --Vertical SaaS companies will continue to thrive.? These companies are well positioned for embedded LLM in their offerings and adding further value to their customers.? --Data MOAT: Recognizing data as the most critical intellectual property, companies are likely to intensify protection through walled gardens.? --I hope there will be increased (data) collaborations, consortiums across pharma and healthcare companies.? The application of responsible LLM within these sectors could help unlock amazing new discoveries for the greater good.?? --Corporations should prepare for the reshaping of internal workflows, increased M&A activities, and a focus on Change Management Leadership, Organizational Integration, Performance Alignment, Strategic Workforce/AI Planning, and Customer Centricity for sustained success. In closing, 2023 was a transitional and flagship year for me, both personally and professionally, marked by the launch of Knauth Search! We’ve hit the ground running with a growing client base and have had multiple placements to kick off the year (keep an eye out for those upcoming announcements).? Focused on searches, updating LinkedIn took a back seat. But, with the new year around the corner, I wanted to share that after years of honing my skills in recruitment across agency, corporate, and executive search, I've taken the leap to start my own firm – Knauth Search! Many of my colleagues in HR and TA had encouraged me to do so, given the gap in the search market today. A search partner that can immerse themselves in a business, have the depth and versatility to assist multiple levels, functional areas and have the flexibility in their model to support their clients through the evolving market. Starting out, our aim is to serve companies within the biotech, medical device, robotics, manufacturing, and saas sectors. Excitedly we’ve already hit the ground running, signing on multiple clients and to date 12+ searches (in less than a few weeks).
