As the year draws to a close, we’re proud to share our 2023 Sustainability Progress Dashboard. We remained dedicated to building on our foundations for change. Though we faced some challenges and setbacks, we continue forging a path toward a world where we #PutPeopleFirst #AchieveZeroCarbon #DeliverACircularEconomy and #CreateBetterBuildings. ? ?? One success we’re particularly proud of is the 20.02% reduction in our Scope 1 + Scope 2 emissions. This is an immense achievement and greatly furthers our goal of 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2032. ? As our Sustainability Director Marc Bosmans, perfectly said: ‘We recognise that sustainability is not a simple transition; it is a metamorphosis.’ ? ?? These achievements inspire us to keep pushing forward, while the setbacks drive us to be better. At Knauf Insulation, we believe sustainability isn’t just a goal—it’s a journey and we will continue to share our progress transparently with the people who matter most: you. ? Energy efficiency is at the heart of our business We are deeply committed to energy efficiency and recognise the pivotal role that buildings play in Europe’s battle against climate change. With buildings accounting for 40% of energy consumption and 38% of Co2 emissions, addressing this issue is critical. To achieve net zero by 2050, we must act now if we want to build a chance to halve these carbon emissions by 2030. This is why we actively advocate to keep energy efficient at the heart of public debate in every country where we operate.Continued focus on product and development We are actively addressing the growing global demand for effective solutions to enhance the energy efficiency of existing buildings and minimise the heating energy requirements of new builds. With an emphasis on driving forward the advancement of energy efficient insulation materials and insulation systems, we are tackling these challenges head on.

On Friday, 21 March, we had the pleasure of welcoming Pascal Arimont, Member of the European Parliament, and Luc Frank, Member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, to our Knauf Insulation Visé plant. Their visit was an opportunity to exchange on the crucial role that energy-intensive industries like ours play in Europe’s energy transition, and the policies needed to accelerate decarbonisation, circularity, and affordable renovation across the building stock. We had the chance to share our approach to sustainability: ?? Use of up to 80% recycled glass in our glass wool production ?? Our innovative plant-based binder – ECOSE? ?? Our commitment to circularity through our Resulation services. We’re grateful to Mr. Arimont for his kind words about our work and for recognising our long-standing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and industrial excellence. His acknowledgement of our recent Factory of the Future award is a great encouragement to our teams who continue to push boundaries every day. His reflections on the need for harmonised regulations and stronger recycling incentives echo the real challenges facing the circular economy today and we’re pleased to see these discussions gaining traction at the European level. Thank you for your visit and your support in driving Europe’s path to a more sustainable, resilient built environment. ?? Read Mr. Arimont’s post to hear his impressions and key takeaways from the visit. #KnaufInsulation #CircularEconomy #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #EPBD #EUGreenDeal

?? Even the most efficient construction sites inevitably generate some material waste, such as mineral wool insulation. But that doesn’t mean we just have to write it off! Instead, our Resulation program ensures that this waste is put to use and turned into new, sustainable construction materials. ???? In Germany, we work together with GFR mbH, Knauf Group’s recycling expert. With our giant Resulation bags, we collect large amounts of waste insulation and send it along for recycling: ?? Rock Mineral Wool and Glass Mineral Wool residue gets reprocessed and made into new Mineral Wool - ensuring no resources go to waste. With our Resulation program, handling waste insulation is easier than ever before - and we can continue building a more sustainable future. ???? A Sustainable Future Starts with Collaboration! At Renovate Europe Day 2024 in Budapest, Radek Bedrna, General Manager for Eastern Europe and Middle East at Knauf Insulation, emphasised: "We need to work together to make buildings and housing affordable for citizens – especially for our children and future generations – and this work starts with energy-efficient home renovations." Europe’s building stock is a major contributor to carbon emissions and energy use. Energy-efficient renovations could reduce natural gas heating by 44% and save 45% of residential energy consumption. By focusing on these renovations, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, we can significantly cut emissions and lower energy bills, paving the way for a better future. This is a collective effort requiring commitment from all – governments, companies, and citizens alike. In Central and Eastern Europe there are 43.6 million single- and multi-family homes, the majority of which are energy inefficient. While renovating these homes may be a daunting task, it’s also a necessary one. That’s because energy-efficient home renovations would result in a 44% reduction in the amount of natural gas used for heating, ultimately saving 45% of the final energy consumption currently used to heat Europe’s residential buildings. The good news is that the goal of renovating Europe is very much in reach. According to Radek Bedrna, Knauf Insulation’s Eastern Europe & Middle East General Manager, all it takes is: 1)?????The right solutions 2)?????The right partners 3)?????A willingness to work together “We need to work together to make buildings and housing affordable for citizens – especially for our children and future generations – and this work starts with energy-efficient home renovations.” Check out the article Knauf Insulation provided us for our REDay 2024 and learn how Knauf Insulation is delivering on all three!
