  • Women in STEM--Still a Climb The post below was written in 2022. Since then, some progress has been made, but challenges remain. ???? Women make up 48% of the workforce, but only 27% of STEM jobs, according to 2019 Census data. ?? The 2024 Global Gender Gap Report from the World Economic Forum shows women in STEM now represent 28.2% of the workforce—a slight increase. ?? In 2019, Pew Research found that women in STEM earned 74% of what men earned in the same roles. ?? New research from Adzuna in 2024 shows that science and engineering have the widest gender pay gaps, with science at 13.1% and engineering at 9.5%. (Interestingly, accounting is the only sector where women out-earn their male counterparts.) ?? Women-led startups receive just 2.3% of VC funding. ?? However, PitchBook's 2024 Female Founder report highlights that women founders secured a record 24.3% of total VC exit counts, and women VC investors are writing 17.3% of the checks.
