What a truly memorable morning at our support?office for this year’s Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal! ????We were privileged?to?be joined by our Adelaide store team member Eve Kibblewhite who had the idea 37 years ago that started the?Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, Warren Elliott from The Salvation Army Australia and one of our amazing Wishing Tree Champions Corey Parker. The morning was topped off by a performance from band members from The Salvation Army and a carol performance from some of our Kmart Chirnside Park team members. This week our teams rolled up their sleeves for #NationalRecyclingWeek, doing our bit for the planet and our commitment to reducing, reusing, repurposing or recycling waste to build a circular economy ???? We tackled everything from old samples and empty boxes to Christmas decorations, old equipment, and hard waste across our Melbourne offices. In the spirit of giving, we also made donations to our Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, with thoughtful contributions that can be gifted to bring joy to thousands of families this Christmas. ???

Last week in Perth, we set up our exciting exhibition booth at this year’s Wesfarmers Annual General Meeting. We were thrilled to showcase our latest Kmart homeware range, ‘Dyurali Budyari,’ meaning ‘beautiful growth,’ created in collaboration with the talented Kyralee Shields. ?????? Our co-branded booth with Target Australia highlighted our strong commitment to reconciliation and showcased our ongoing efforts to connect with First Nations communities through our collaborations with Indigenous artists. Thank you to everyone who visited us, and a huge well done and thank you to our incredible team members across the business who made this event a tremendous success! ??

We’re thrilled to celebrate the incredible effort our teams put into this year’s STEPtember challenge! Last month, our people came together with a shared purpose: to make a positive impact on the lives of those living with cerebral palsy. Thanks to our teams across Kmart and Target Australia, we raised an amazing $47,422 and collectively took 495,041,775 steps. ? We also doubled our dollar matching this year. Together, we will contribute $23,000 to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance by matching donations from our top 40 fundraisers - double last year’s top 20. That’s over $70,000 raised for Cerebral Palsy Alliance programs. We’re especially proud that Kmart and Target ranked number one among all participating organisations in Australia!

The first-ever nationwide study into how Australians use and dispose of clothing has revealed people are buying too many clothes and are unsure how to discard them responsibly. Conducted by RMIT University and commissioned by Kmart Australia Limited and the Queensland Government, a study of 3,080 Australians explored how they acquired, used and disposed of their clothing. Across all findings, age was the most significant factor in determining consumer clothing practices, surpassing gender, income bracket and location. Young Australians, aged 18–34, were more likely to buy second-hand, repair, resell or share clothes but tended to have large collections of unused clothing that were no longer in style. Older Australians were more likely to donate clothing they no longer wanted, though were less likely to buy second-hand. Lead author RMIT Professor Alice Payne said although Australians buy too many clothes, there are some things we do well. “Compared to European data, Australians are better at shopping second-hand and washing clothes responsibly,” said Payne, Dean of RMIT’s School of Fashion and Textiles. "Brands and retailers must create higher-quality products that endure both fashion trends and wear."
