Here are some key takeaways from a recent payroll provider’s post: ?? What is a business write-off? Expenses must be ordinary and necessary for your business to qualify. ??? ?? Tax deduction vs. tax credit – A write-off reduces taxable income, while a credit lowers the actual taxes owed. ??? ?? Common write-offs – Business travel, advertising, home office expenses, and more. ???? ?? What’s NOT deductible? Not all expenses qualify, so knowing the rules is key. ??? ?? They can help you identify anything you may have missed and ensure that changes—like equipment updates or new card acceptance methods—don’t result in unnecessary fees or risk to your business. ?? A quick check now can help you avoid surprises later. If you have any questions or need recommendations for reviewing your statements, don’t hesitate to reach out! ?? Fun Fact: Card brands like Visa and Mastercard typically update their fees twice a year, in April and October. These updates can affect interchange rates, processing fees, and other associated costs. For instance, you may see a notice like this on your statement: "THE CARD BRANDS HAVE ANNOUNCED CHANGES, EFFECTIVE APRIL 2025, THAT MAY IMPACT YOUR COST OF CARD ACCEPTANCE.     I've been wondering—does having a personal LinkedIn page and a business page justify the extra time? Like many of you, I've attended events and heard speakers emphasize the importance of having both. But here's the thing—I don't use LinkedIn to make a direct sale. When I first joined, it was for recruiting—filling open positions. After a layoff, it became my networking hub, helping me and others land our next gigs. Then, as I built my business, LinkedIn became a place to find connections, and many offered the services I needed. Fast-forward to today, and it's my go-to for making introductions when a client, friend, or colleague needs something.     I'm Stacy Klone—rhymes with Tony. Prepping for a recent podcast with Christopher Flowers from "Here's The Deal", got me thinking about my journey. I might have laughed if you'd told me in 2008 that I'd go from corporate operations to running KloneWerks as a Merchant Services & Payroll Broker. After being laid off from Macy's (and honestly, I'd have laid myself off, too—17 corporate offices were a bit much), I leaned into what I do best: simplifying payments and payroll solutions while connecting clients, colleagues, friends, and family to the right resources At first, that meant retraining myself on LinkedIn—not for hiring, but for networking. What started as a pivot became a business built on connections, trust, and making things easier for business owners. Now, I help companies simplify payments and payroll so they can focus on growth. It's funny how life works. ?? I took my experience from Dayton's/Hudson's/Marshall Fields and turned it into a way to save business owners time and money. ?? I re-learned LinkedIn—not for hiring, but for networking—and it's been one of my most valuable tools. ?? Now, I broker merchant services and payroll solutions so businesses can run more efficiently. Why does this matter? Because I see too many businesses leaving money on the table. Whether it's credit card processing fees, payroll inefficiencies, or compliance headaches, the right solution makes all the difference. Take a recent client—he spent 8 hours a week on payroll. After we found a better system, it now takes him under an hour. His response? "I would have outsourced sooner if I had known how much doing it myself was costing me!" And that's why I do what I do.
