Part 7: of Dr. Bonnett's series on who may not do well with #ketaminetherapy
Psychedelic Medicine Physician - Founder and Medical Director of Klarisana - Emergency Physician - OEF/OIF Veteran (LTC Ret.)
Another category of patient who does not generally do well with ketamine therapy is the person who is a poly-substance abuser. Now what I mean by this is somebody who really enjoys using just about any substance they can possibly get their hands on. These are the folks who list multiple substances from multiple different classes. Ketamine can work very effectively for alcoholism, opiate addiction and benzodiazepine addiction. In fact, I would predict in the coming years that ketamine and other psychedelics will revolutionize the field of substance abuse treatment. This is a very different situation however. The patients, who report using a wide variety of substances from almost every imaginable class don't do well with ketamine therapy. In my experience, most of them are presenting in order to get Ketamine in an easier and legal fashion. If you or a loved one fall into this category, I would recommend first seeking help from a qualified substance abuse treatment center before considering ketamine therapy. If you are looking to get your loved one treated with ketamine and they fall into this category please ask the center if they specialize in the treatment of complex polysubstance use disorder. If you are new to my channel, my name is Carl Bonnett. I am the Founder and Medical Director of Klarisana and have been actively involved in the practice of ketamine and psychedelic medicine since 2015. Klarisana operates ketamine-based behavioral health centers in Colorado and Texas. I was trained as an emergency physician and also served for 20 years in the Army National Guard. I deployed four times in support of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. I founded Klarisana in 2015 in response to the Veteran suicide rate and now we are one of the most experienced ketamine providers in the US. If you want to learn more about how ketamine can be used for the treatment of severe depression, anxiety, and PTSD please subscribe to my social media channels. #ketamine #psychedelicmedicine #personaldevelopment #lawofassumption #ptsd Klarisana - Ketamine Therapy & Mental Health Clinics
