关于我们

The founding Objects of Kiwanis remain our core objects today. Through special worldwide initiatives, like Eliminating Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus, Kiwanians impact the world as well as their local communities. ? To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life. ? To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships. ? To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards. ? To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship. ? To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities. ? To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.

Great time visiting with and hearing Rodney Bullard with The Same House come speak at our Kiwanis Club this week. In a time of such division, it was inspiring and encouraging to hear what all we can do to unite together and impact those around us. Everyone was moved and rose to their feet, touched by your words! Thank you for your leadership across metro Atlanta. You reminded us we may never know the impact we are making but we can all use the gifts and talents that God gave us to make a difference in our family, our neighborhood, our community and our great City aka House of Atlanta. Our Kiwanis Club of Atlanta’s Program committee with Chair Karen (Chesson) Sheldon has been hitting it out of the park lately with such amazing speakers!! So great to also see our Coxe Curry & Associates friend MacKensie Brandt! Thanks for visiting!! We are always looking for visitors to come check out our club. #kiwanisclubatlanta #thesamehouse #kiwanis #kidsneedkiwanis #learnserveconnect #atlanta

  • Let's finish off January with another amazing speaker. We will have fellow Kiwanian, Emily Acker, CEO of Hillside, Inc, as our guest speaker. Emily will share on January 28th and her message will be "When Home Isn't Enough: Understanding Residential Treatment for Children's Mental Health." Emily Acker, CEO of Hillside, leads one of Atlanta's most respected mental health treatment centers for children and adolescents. With over three decades of experience, Emily has committed her life to helping young people in crisis understand their worth, find their strengths, and live healthier lives. Her career began in a counseling role for troubled teen boys, where she discovered her calling to support at-risk youth. Now, as a mother and grandmother, her mission has evolved to include empowering entire families navigating the challenges of serious mental illness. Under Emily's leadership, Hillside has gained national recognition as the first residential facility in the U.S. to receive program certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) from the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, a specialized approach that equips children with emotional regulation and coping strategies. Emily's dedication to this approach reflects her deep understanding of child neurodevelopment, helping kids build resilience during their formative years. Hillside's treatment options are comprehensive, spanning both inpatient and outpatient services, including virtual programs, to support families at various stages of need. Beyond treatment, Emily is a tireless advocate for reducing the stigma surrounding youth mental health, encouraging parents to seek intervention early and educating communities that mental health issues are not matters of discipline but medical concerns. Her message to families is rooted in hope: with the right care and environment, children can thrive. Emily’s personal philosophy, “Every child matters,” shapes every aspect of Hillside’s work, reminding families and communities alike that each child has the potential for a bright and fulfilling future. Her vision, expertise, and compassion have positioned her and her team as a trusted authorities in children’s mental health. INTRODUCTION: Susan Adams INVOCATION: Jim Duffie

It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of our friend and former president, Laura McCarty. Laura was a humanities person through and through—passionate about poetry, music, and local history, deeply curious about people, and gifted with a remarkable ability to connect. She could befriend a new acquaintance in seconds flat and find a “humanities moment”—an opportunity to learn, grow, and better understand one another—in any situation. Laura retired in 2024 after 30 years of service to Georgia Humanities, and her career touched nearly every aspect of our work. She began as a program assistant for grants, nurturing projects into award-winning initiatives, and contributed articles to the?New Georgia Encyclopedia. As state coordinator of National History Day Georgia, Laura guided hundreds of students and teachers, staying in touch with many as their careers grew. Later, as executive vice president and eventually president in 2018, she led with kindness and compassion, championing projects that celebrated Georgia’s story and uplifting organizations across the state. Laura’s love for the humanities and the people behind them left a lasting mark. As our board chair, Cameron Bean, put it: “Laura served Georgia Humanities for the better part of her life, and we are a better organization because of her.” Our thoughts are with Laura’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We invite you to share your stories and memories of Laura as we reflect on her life and the impact she had on so many.
