Kiva is on a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.

关于我们

Kiva (www.kiva.org) expands financial access to help underserved communities thrive. An international non-profit, we serve the financially excluded, especially underbanked women, refugees and communities impacted by forced displacement, climate-vulnerable people and systemically marginalized communities in the United States. By connecting people through crowdfunded loans, Kiva puts the power of financial inclusion in all our hands. Since 2005, the Kiva community has raised over $2 billion in loans, reaching over 5 million people in 84 countries. Kiva’s team is made up of 100+ employees and 450+ volunteers across the world, with offices in San Francisco, Nairobi, Bangkok, and Bogotá.

A new report by impact measurement company 60 Decibels analyzes how Kiva is addressing economic inequality in the U.S.: At Kiva, we know that the U.S., despite being the world’s largest economy by GDP, is home to millions of people considered financially excluded. Approximately 26 million adults in the U.S. (nearly 10%) are “credit invisible”, meaning they do not have enough credit history to produce a credit score. 1 in 4 U.S. adults are underbanked, meaning they have limited access to financial services. With our 0%-interest, zero-fee, no-collateral, no-minimum-credit-score, socially underwritten loans, we’re not only rethinking creditworthiness, but we’re also helping fill the gap created by deep-rooted economic inequality. Are our efforts paying off? Click the link in the comments to see how we're doing:

Together with our partners, we are actively working to build solutions to the challenges that refugees face when accessing finance. Earlier this year, the Kiva Impact team conducted a listening tour with 15 partner institutions in the Kiva Refugee Investment Fund (KRIF) portfolio. Our partners shared solutions they have implemented, and five distinct approaches emerged. Learn what they were in this edition of our Reimagining Refugee Finance newsletter authored by Molly Bond, Kiva's Impact Content Manager. And subscribe for more ??

We couldn’t agree more! Lev Plaves, Kiva’s Investment Director, is spot on. The data speaks for itself: refugees repay Kiva loans at comparable rates to other borrowers. It’s time refugees were treated just like everyone else. We’re grateful to partners Barri Shorey and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation who help us further our work with refugee lens investing.

Refugees are employable, hardworking, credit-worthy, and ultimately, investable. It’s time for donors to support their ingenuity and entrepreneurship with a sustainable funding approach: refugee lens investing. Barri Shorey, senior program officer of our Refugees initiative, explains how this blended finance model invests in refugee-owned and refugee-serving businesses. We work with impact investing partners like Lev Plaves from Kiva, RIF - Refugee Investment Facility, Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehj?lp, iGravity, Acumen, Refugee Investment Network, Building Markets, among others, to build refugee self-reliance and fuel local economies. #SOCAP24 Learn what #donors can do to invest in #refugees: https://lnkd.in/g3mxzQwh

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We’re celebrating a successful partnership and collaboration with Extern ahead of the launch of Kiva’s inaugural Ambassador Community (stay tuned for more info on this ??)! Extern is an edtech company that creates, manages, and runs externship programs for its industry partners to bridge the gap between education and the workforce. With Extern, we worked with about 50 university students across the United States who provided Kiva with recommendations to improve our word-of-mouth marketing. This model provided invaluable experience for students and offered Kiva actionable insights to launch our Ambassador Community. We were inspired by the final presenters, whose innovative solutions aligned with our mission to bring financial access to communities worldwide. Cheers to a successful partnership! ??

In the US, entrepreneurs from systemically marginalized groups—communities that experience discrimination and exclusion due to systems of oppression—do not have equal access to the resources they need to thrive. At Kiva, we aim to increase financial inclusion of these entrepreneurs by providing interest-free loans and other resources. We’ve also been exploring an additional approach: the power of AI. AI tools can be an accessible resource to help entrepreneurs create engaging and relevant content across platforms. Here are a few ways to use ChatGPT to create content: ? ???????? ????????????????????: Brainstorming topics for blogs, social media posts, and newsletters. It can provide a fresh perspective and spark creativity. ? ???????????????? ????????????????: If you have a basic idea, ask ChatGPT to expand on it, conduct competitor or market research, or provide additional details to develop the concept further. ? ???????????????? ????????????: Writing drafts for various content types, including articles, social media posts, emails, product descriptions, and video and podcast scripts. ? ?????????????? ???? ??????????????????????: Reviewing and polishing drafts to improve clarity and tone, and suggesting or refining headlines and subject lines for better impact. ? ???????????????? ??????????????: Creating and suggesting ideas for visual content like infographics or images. ? ???????????? ???????????? ????????????????????????: Incorporating keywords and optimizing content for search engines, or suggesting meta descriptions and tags for better online visibility. ….and more. Kiva and OpenAI have teamed up to bring small business owners resources on using AI for their enterprises. Click the link in the comments to learn more.

Social enterprises are not only creating solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change, but are doing so in ways that directly support the people most impacted, like smallholder farmers, low-income families, and rural communities. But if social enterprises are at the forefront of climate solutions, why isn’t the funding following suit? Learn more in this edition of Vishal Ghotge's Rooted in Impact newsletter, featuring some amazing social enterprises that Kiva lenders have helped fund: Someone Somewhere, Kuli Kuli Foods and ATEC Global. #socialenterprise #climateaction #climatechange
