Have you heard the news? KITE is 50! To celebrate, we are spotlighting KITE team members and sharing their most meaningful work moments with community organizations. Next up, is Erickson Díaz-Cortés! Joining KITE in 2021 by way of Florida and Puerto Rico, Erickson is an Architectural Designer dedicated to creating meaningful and inspiring spaces for the local community. Erickson has collaborated on a variety of projects aligned with his Master’s in Architecture research in Queer Space during his time at KITE, notably the Providence-based non-profit Haus of Codec. This organization is Rhode Island’s first and only Emergency Supportive Housing aimed at addressing homelessness among transition-aged LGBTQIA+ youth in Providence through the arts and workforce development. Erickson helped Haus of Codec renovate an existing multi-family house in Providence for their new facility which will provide additional housing and communal space. “For me, the most rewarding architectural work is one that positively impacts an entire community, particularly those that have been historically-marginalized. The synergy of thoughtful design and an important organization such as this one makes this project incredibly significant. During my Masters program in Architecture, I focused my thesis work on Queer Spaces in Architecture, categorizing renowned works of architecture according to their queer spatial sensibility, program, and user-type. Now, a few years later, I have the opportunity to design a space for this very community. Knowing that what started off as a single line on a piece of paper will eventually turn into a space that will shape the lives of LGBTQ+ youth is incredibly meaningful.” Haus of Codec will be hosting its annual fundraising event on Saturday, October 5th, to honor the organization’s anniversary. All proceeds will directly impact HOC’s operational funds. Get your tickets now! https://lnkd.in/eSj-UBnN

Have you heard the news? KITE is 50! To celebrate, we are spotlighting KITE team members and sharing their most meaningful work moments with community organizations. Next up, is Mike Chieffalo! Mike joined KITE in 2021 as a Senior Architect with a diverse background across a range of professional and academic settings. From feasibility studies for higher education institutions to mixed use market-rate residential buildings, Mike has worked on a variety of project types while at KITE. It is his work with Crossroads Rhode Island providing permanent supportive housing, however, that brings him the most satisfaction. No other project embodies the values Mike holds more than the Summer Street Apartments. This ground-up all-electric residential project will provide 176 units 1-bedroom units of permanent supportive housing for people that have previously experienced homelessness. Beyond the social dimensions, this project also has many environmental benefits as it reclaims a polluted industrial site for living free of fossil fuels. "Crossroads is a fantastic client. Through our partnership with them on Summer Street Apartments, we get to serve a population in need while also cleaning up an old industrial site to house a new all-electric, net-zero building. From the social and environmental perspectives, my work helping to bring this building to life represents a professional high-water mark. I feel fortunate to play a role in crafting a building that is so deeply meaningful for so many people. What's not to love!"

Have you heard the news? KITE is 50! To celebrate, we are spotlighting KITE team members and sharing their most meaningful work moments with community organizations. Next up, is Brigida Capicotto! Brigida joined KITE in 2018 as an intern while finishing her M.Arch. She’s now a Project Architect fueled by finding creative solutions, not only to meet the needs of a project but to improve the experience of space. Brigida has seen numerous projects through construction at her time with KITE. YWCA’s renovation of Gateway I & II will provide 52 studio apartments with individual bathrooms and shared kitchenettes to the Veterans they serve. Through the Construction Administration process, Brigida has been working with Pariseault Builders to meet the design intentions while accommodating existing concealed conditions and addressing the evolving needs of the project. “Construction is a compelling time in a project. Involvement in bringing designs to life taught me invaluably early in my career. I always look forward to this phase and the opportunity to work with contractors to troubleshoot design moves in real time. It’s especially rewarding with clients like YWCA who are working to improve spaces for individuals who need it most.”
