A week ago, all of us at Kiss The Ground met for the first time in person to celebrate our work with long-time and new supporters. We're a remote 4-day/week work force with a lot of geographic diversity. Instead of creating a traditional 'fundraiser', we approached it more as a celebration and an opportunity for everyone to meet the team who does the work. We gathered at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, with chef Dan Barber, to commemorate the launch of our $500k direct-to-farmer grants, Kiss the Ground Coffee, and the debut of a new mini-doc. We learned about the origin of the food we were eating, bringing us closer to the soil and people growing our food. In a room of 100 people, our team and board engaged with supporters over stories of food and community, brief presentations of our works impact, and a beautiful farm-to-table meal-- most left with a clearer understanding and an invigorated passion for healthy soil and restoring our food systems. Also, our team is feeling more connected, confident, and ready to get back to work, promoting regeneration and healthy soil as a viable solution for our wellness, water and climate crisis! It was extra special to be joined by some of our current partners such as Anthropologie, Buena Vida Specialty Coffee, Gaia Herbs and some new partners who we will absolutely be collaborating with going forward.. The recent devastation caused by #HurricaneHelene reminds us just how important healthy soil and well-functioning ecosystems are for maintaining the health of the large and small water cycles as well as the health and safety of our planet and it's inhabitants. Regenerative agriculture is our ticket to rebuilding these vital systems and bringing true function and resilience back to our landscapes. While no farm can escape the extent of extreme weather like Helene, the way we care for our land can make a huge difference in our resilience (just 1% increase of soil organic matter means one acre of land can hold 20k more gallons of water). By better understanding our natural systems that we depend on, we can work with nature to not just survive, but to thrive. Regenerative agriculture helps keep soil covered with plants, reducing massive heat islands that increase temperatures and put more water vapor into our atmosphere. This can lessen storm strength, and bring more water back into our land and hold it in soil where it belongs. Regenerative farming is all about creating positive feedback loops, which brings healing and hope for our future. Together, we can cultivate a brighter, more resilient future! ???? In September, we teamed up with Terrain to host the Anthropologie x Terrain Spooky Terrarium Workshops in stores across the country. Attendees enjoyed a hands-on experience, crafting their own terrariums with guidance from Terrain experts, who also shared insights into regenerative agriculture. Even better? 100% of ticket proceeds went to support Kiss The Ground, a non-profit helping to cultivate change through responsible practices.
