Our team had the privilege of contributing to the recent initiative that welcomed the children of West Maui back to their classrooms following the destructive fires. We are now equally honored to continue our efforts by extending our services to our partners as we work together to support the displaced families of Lahaina. A groundbreaking and blessing ceremony for a temporary housing facility took place this week, honoring the important traditions of the Hawai'i community. Ka La'i Ola, with its 450 units, is set to welcome its first residents this August. Yesterday the KC Team had the opportunity to attend the AACE Hawaii Section event at Kuilei Place. The insightful presentation by Calvin Gidlof, Chief Estimator, Principal Scheduler, and Risk Manager at Parsons, highlighted how risk management principles are not only essential for large projects but also applicable to everyday decisions. With extensive experience in risk assessments for government and private sectors, Calvin explained the concepts of 'unknown unknowns' and 'known unknowns' . He emphasized that while unpredictable events are beyond our planning, we can strategically manage foreseeable risks using past experience with an understanding of probability and severity. His session also highlighted the importance of due diligence, such as properly assessing subcontractor reliability through insightful questioning, to mitigate risks and improve decision-making processes.
