Victims of violent crime, including sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, could soon face severe delays or even lose access to support services altogether due to massive cuts in federal Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA) funding. This crisis is impacting organizations assisting survivors right here in Washington state, threatening our collective ability to respond to every victim when they seek help. We can't fathom turning away any victim. And we won't stand by and just let it happen. We need your help. Join us in Seattle on December 7 to urge statelawmakers to immediately stabilize and adequately fund victim services. To learn how you can get involved, visit https://lnkd.in/gcu_B55Q

Today join us in celebrating the 30th?anniversary of the passage of the federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). VAWA provides legal protections and essential services for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. It provides resources for training for law enforcement, prosecutors, judges and services for victims and survivors like those offered at KCSARC. VAWA has been reauthorized and improved four times, the latest of which was 2022, adding resources for prevention, community-specific services for LGBTQ victims, victims of violence on tribal lands, culturally specific programs, services and responses, and new protections for survivors in housing, among others. We as a nation have made great strides and still have work to do to end gendered violence. Celebrate today and watch this space for more action you can take! https://lnkd.in/g7R5icvS

We had a fantastic visit yesterday at the KCSARC office with State Reps Tina Orwall, Mia Gregerson and Roger Goodman. We’re grateful to them and to our courageous Empowered Voices member who shared how KCSARC helped their family recover and regain their lives. With new and drastic cuts to the federal VOCA fund, survivor services throughout the state are at risk and we are looking to state leaders to find sustainable solutions. We appreciate the opportunity to talk with these state leaders as we gear up for the coming session!
