After a decade of approaches, leather has proven impossible to unseat. Plant-based leathers, alternative leathers, etc. just never held up. When we seeded Faircraft, we were excited about a novel approach to develop actual leather. They have succeeded. We are thrilled to double down and co-lead a Series A in the company. They’ve produced the first ever lab grown handbag from scratch, built a novel scale manufacturing system, and signed co-development with world’s leading luxury brands on a seed round. Dizzying pace and quality of execution. By combining the speed of software startup culture, scale manufacturing design of hardware culture, and a few research breakthroughs in cell biology, they have been able to print lab-grown leather at scale, and their pace is accelerating. Congratulations to Cesar VALENCIA GALLARDO, Ha?kel Balti and the whole brilliant team of scientists and engineers at Faircraft. Exploring the frontier of space!
The vast majority of what humans have sent to space is on a one-way ticket. But what if we could send things to space and bring them back? Would totally change how we made space stuff and what we could use space for. Inversion answers this question. Only two companies have an active mission in the ???? to re-enter vehicles from space. Inversion, on a seed round, is one of them. Incredibly high throughput and ambition from this team. By solving thermals (space is cold, re-entry is hot), radiation hardening, parachute-science (!), and self-driving, they have managed to build a craft that can get from orbit to anywhere on the ??, to a few meters accuracy, autonomously. Technology is using cutting edge human tools to dramatically solve people’s problems. Inversion is technology. So, so pleased to be backing them with our friends at Spark Capital and Adjacent We wrote a bit about our investment here: https://t.co/6K4tS5m892

Founder & Managing Partner @ Kindred Ventures | Forbes Midas List '23, '24 | Inception/Pre-Seed/Seed Stage Investor
When we first led their pre-seed round at Northflank, Will Stewart and Frederik Brix were engineers who loved gaming and shared insights from deploying gaming servers. One defining question they asked: ???????? ???? ?????????????????? ?????????????? ???????? ???? ?????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ???????????? ?????????? ???? ??????????????????-???????????????? ?????? ?????????????????? ????????? Today, Northflank is announcing not only their latest $22M financing round, but their general availability of their PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) offering to not only the tens of thousands of developers and startups using Northflank, but also their BYOC (Bring-your-own-Cloud) product to larger enterprises. Enterprises may have robust engineering teams but still find too much complexity in managing deployments. Many of their customer names can't be disclosed, but they are some of the most important companies in the financial services, sports, ecommerce and crypto sectors. It has been wonderful to watch this small lean team ship fast and iterate their way into the Enterprise market starting from the developer hobbyist and startup community segment. Some highlights that Northflank offers today: ?? Unified deployment platform under one single tool ? Multi-Cloud flexibility (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc) ???? Developer-centric experience ?? Continuous integration and deployment ?? Scalability and cost optimizations ?? Highest security and compliance So we are super excited at Kindred Ventures to continue backing this visionary team (+ new COO Chase Roberts) and glad to finally officially welcome new VC backers of the mission: Slater Stich from Bain Capital Ventures and Sandeep Bhadra from Vertex Ventures, and pebblebed! Also, they are hiring across the board, so if engineering, GTM (sales, customer success), and product marketing are exciting to you, please DM me or find their website at https://northflank.com.
We just raised $22m to make Kubernetes work for your developers and fix app deployment to the cloud. This new funding was led by Slater Stich at Bain Capital Ventures and Sandeep Bhadra?at Vertex Ventures. Frederik Brix and I started Northflank with one mission: to make deploying complex workloads as straightforward as possible for developers. Somewhere along the way, it feels like the industry shifted focus from building great products to building the factories that make them. To bring that focus back, we've made significant product engineering investments that have laid the foundation for our growth. By centering on the needs of developers, we've introduced features like Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC), enterprise-grade capabilities, preview environments and GitOps support. Leveraging Kubernetes as an operating system and providing the right abstractions, we've empowered developers to deploy complex workloads effortlessly, be it micro-services, stateful databases or jobs across six clouds, 100 regions and 300 Availability Zones. Today, Northflank supports tens of thousands of developers in production, handling over 1.3 million container deployments every month. With this new backing, we’re gearing up to scale our platform even further to help enterprises run complex workloads around the world and support customers like Writer, Sentry, and many more. I’m incredibly grateful to our earliest supporters—Steve Jang at Kindred Ventures,?Luke Byrne at?pebblebed,?Patrick Murphy & Alex Mackenzie at Tapestry VC—who believed in us from the beginning. And I’m excited to welcome new partners Amanda Huang & Slater at Bain, Salil Deshpande at?Uncorrelated Ventures, and more, to our journey with this Series A. I'm also thrilled to announce that Chase Roberts is joining Northflank as our new COO! He’s coming to us from Vertex, who led our Seed round, and brings a wealth of operating experience from his time at Box and Segment. I used to joke with Fred about how we could convince Chase to join the team full-time—his energy and drive are contagious. When Chase saw our vision to simplify cloud infrastructure, he couldn’t stop thinking about it; having him on board in this role feels like a perfect fit. Thank you to our new angels for believing in what we're building: Scott Johnston CEO at Docker, Inc, David Cramer Co-Founder at Sentry, Oskari Saarenmaa Co-Founder at Aiven. Ian Livingstone Kris Beevers, Jerry Ting, jeff settle, Steve Manuel and more! And most importantly, a huge thank you to our customers who trust us with their most important workloads. We're just getting started!
