Tip Tuesday: Employ culturally relevant strategies and promote open communication about family needs by establishing a supportive environment where Native American parents can comfortably discuss child care challenges and seek help without the fear of stigma, enabling them to navigate these difficulties while pursuing their professional goals. If your organization has childcare policies fairly available to all, reexamining your communication strategies may help. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #KimCenter #IncreasingChildcare #WorkplaceEquity #TransformingEcosystems

Honor those who served and create equitable workplaces for Veterans! Our LEAPS Regional Data indicates that 55% of Veterans think about leaving their organization because they are not getting the advancement and/or pay raises they deserve. Research suggest that these, among other factors such as a sense of meaninglessness in their work and an unfamiliar workplace culture, are reasons why veterans leave their first jobs out of the service. Organizations can overcome these barriers by creating an environment that treats veterans in an equitable manner and retains veteran employees by: 1. Providing sufficient support for career advancement and development such as sponsoring (mentor formally and actively promotes a mentee's career), mentorships, job shadowing, skills development training, and professional development opportunities. 2. Offering training on biases and stereotypes related to veterans. Raising awareness of both conscious and unconscious biases can help reduce their impact. 3. Establishing Employee Resource Groups specifically for veterans within the organization that can provide support and facilitate connections among veteran employees. This is especially beneficial in workplaces with a significant number of veterans.
