Super proud of our Government Affairs team for their engagement and intense two-days of learning and development. Special thanks to the team at Kilo Alpha Strategies…. Specifically, Amy K. Mitchell and Kelley Currie for putting together a top-notch program to help elevate the Legion’s staff (and a few guests) on all things related to their profession. For the past two days, we have held a Policy Workshop for staff, focused on veterans and national security issues facing the Legion’s membership and extended community. On day one, I was honored to host and welcome to the DC Legion HQs, Alexander Gray Michelle Bekkering William G. Bushman Nargis Nehan to delve into the holistic and dynamic nature of today’s global geopolitical landscape. Today (Day two), we spent the day on Capitol Hill and focused on the American veteran, with former SVAC and HVAC staff director, Jon Towers, a lunchtime one on one with the House Veterans Affairs Committee, Lindsay Brand, MPM from the Senate’s Stars of Valor program and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Marty Caraway and Kimberly Mitchell. We dove deep into topics such as Title 38, Legion staff and committee engagement, building relationships across our DC operating environment, and a deep focus on considerations for operating with the next administration and Congress. My sincere gratitude to all the speakers for sharing their time and expertise with us. After extensive preparation (special thanks to advice and relationships with Donna, Ellen, Lawrence, Advaith, Besa, Anthony Principi, Randy, Ryan, Carl. James)and our assessment into the future DC dynamics and upcoming changes into the operating environment, we’re going to release our Legislative Agenda for the 119th Congress soon!
