    What’s the first thing most people do when they want to lose weight? “I need to cut out sugar and amp up my exercise!” But we all know how that story ends. Eating the whole box of cookies on the weekends. Constantly fighting and denying the cravings through the workweek. And feeling like you lack the willpower to be successful long-term. It’s time to rethink weight loss. Typical solutions focus on cutting out our favorite foods and increasing exercise, even if you’re absolutely exhausted. We end up torturing our metabolism just to hit more and more plateaus. But real, sustainable weight loss isn’t that hard. Because the shit that sticks focuses on understanding your body’s needs.     Like a snake shedding its skin, I needed to let go! I needed to step away from the toxic patterns and societal expectations diet culture had placed in my life. And finally reconnect with my true self, again! The version of me I lost with the weight. Our culture often views weight loss as sexy and desirable. I know I once did. Believing a quick fix is what will lead us to our best, skinniest, most beautiful selves. And the diet hacks did 100% make me skinnier. But my best or most beautiful self, that was absolutely not my experience! My real transformation, the girl you see today… She came from the work of mindful eating! Which isn’t always glamorous as dieting. But, it is 10000x more empowering. “Diet Shedding” is about more than just losing weight. Although, weight loss is something that can be achieved with my process. It’s the foundational work that really sets the tone. And that starts with shedding the limiting beliefs and toxic habits we’ve built our lives around. Because we fell into the marketing schemes of dieting. Where you can have and be everything you want, if you lose the weight. But, that kind of weight loss comes at a hefty price. Losing your love for life along with it.   • But, Kiley Houck, MSW, CHC why name your business “Kiley’s Health Haven”? Because it’s a name rooted in purpose! In my previous career, many of you know I was a Social Worker. And my last job in the field, I worked as a crisis intervention specialist. I focused on aiding individuals who were seeking shelter, fleeing from domestic violence and sexual assault. They were looking for a haven. A sanctuary from fear, danger, and chaos. A place where they could let their guard down, knowing they were finally safe. As I transitioned into health and wellness coaching, my commitment to providing that safe space stayed with me. “Kiley’s Health Haven” is more than just a name; it’s a mission. My goal is to offer a refuge where women can: - Escape the stress food brings them - Remove the unrealistic expectations dieting has made them believe - Discard the fear of never being “good”, “worthy”, “skinny”, “smart”, and/or “strong” enough - Prove food is not the enemy, but a friend - Show how emotions can define eating habits - Create a life where eating brings joy and pleasure, not shame and guilt Here, we find peace with our bodies and reclaim our power over food. And we do so, not with rules and restrictions, but through understanding and connection. Plus, the alliteration of “Health Haven” with my last name “Houck” was serendipitous. Almost like a sign that this was the right path. And today, I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life!
