KIKUSUI Multi-Channel High-rate Battery Tester PFX2731S Kikusui PFX2731S is a 6 V-20 A 6-channel battery tester that supports high-rate charge/discharge tests. It is operated with the application software BPChecker4000, which is exclusive to the PFX2731S. As one PC can operate up to 4 units (24 channels), one can construct a multi-channel charge/discharge system according to the required number of channels. To safely conduct long-term continuous testing, it also has 2-system independent protection functions for hardware and software, as well as various protection functions such as a connection confirmation function that detects incorrect wiring and integrated capacity protection. Whitepaper: DC/DC Converter Transient Response Testing With Kikusui PLZ and PXZ Series: A Background Walkthrough Kikusui Electronics Numerous test configurations require a DC electronic load with a rapid slew rate to thoroughly evaluate the impedance variations of the device under test (DUT). This approach is particularly valuable for examining power supplies, in which transient behaviors become increasingly relevant. Factors such as power supply voltage undershoots, overshoots, and ringing can occur in response to load transients. If the supply is incapable of promptly attaining a steady-state condition, these elements can adversely affect sensitive circuits. Examples include voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) in an RF front-end or low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs). Sustained ringing at the output may also lead to undesirable electromagnetic interference (EMI), causing the converter to fail electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests. This article presents considerations for conducting transient testing on DC/DC converters. It explores the utilization of Kikusui’s PLZ-100-5WH2 and PXZ series of electronic loads to perform such tests effectively. The Kikusui PXB series is a highly power-dense bidirectional programmable power supply. The bi-directionality of the supply saves precious floor space, combining the functionality of a power supply and load in one piece of equipment for battery charging/discharging and bidirectional inverters and converters. With its regenerative capability, any potentially wasted energy can be redirected to nearby equipment to both recycle power and reduce the energy consumption typically required for ventilation. The power supply can emulate the behavior of batteries, fuel cells, and solar cells to test the performance of devices that might be powered by these various forms of energy storage. The sequencing feature enables the ease of standards and compliance testing of DUTs. Finally, the modules can be paralleled for up to 200 kW of operation, widening the range of potential tests.
