We are thrilled to announce the Klamath River is now free flowing once again. This comes after the removal of the cofferdam at Iron Gate Dam. Removing the last of the four dams opens up 400 miles of river to salmon migration. This monumental achievement would not have been possible without our project team and client, the leadership of the Tribes across the Klamath Basin, and other organizations and agencies who have played a role in reaching this milestone. Now that the river is back in its channel, crews will begin removing diversion infrastructure at these sites, and another contractor will work on restoring over 8,000 acres of reservoir area. ?? Happy birthday to the late Peter Kiewit, the man who shaped our organization into what it is today. "Our company would not be where it is today if we had been content with mediocre results. We have continually tried to excel in order to accomplish our objectives of becoming the best contracting organization on Earth." - Peter Kiewit, 1976

We’re proud to celebrate our team’s incredible work on the Omaha RiverFront Revitalization Project, which has earned the 2024 ENR Midwest Best Project Award for Landscape/Urban Development! ?? Spanning 72 acres, the project includes: ??? Three parks ?? Over 150,000 plants and trees ?? Space for rollerblading and ice skating in the winter ?? Pedestrian overlook and ten miles of pedestrian walkways and paths — and that’s just the beginning. As the construction manager on the project, Kiewit removed and rebuilt Heartland of America Park, Lewis and Clark Landing and the Gene Leahy Mall. These parks now offer beautiful spaces for all to enjoy, and we’re honored to have played a role in this transformation. Learn more about this award-winning project: https://bit.ly/3TmneSo

As you drive along Vail Pass, you’ll likely notice a significant addition to the mountainside – a massive new retaining wall. This is a crucial component of the ongoing I-70 West Vail Project in Colorado, designed to enhance safety and hold back landslides. The idea for the wall was developed back in the 1970s but couldn’t be completed during initial construction because of technology limitations. With advancements in mountain infrastructure, the new wall, which is 40 feet tall and 1,100 feet long, allows for a wider and safer interstate curve. The wall’s construction includes using soil nail, shotcrete and colored concrete sprayed on a wire netting. Attached to 30-to-50-foot nails is the wire netting and it’s drilled into the side of the hill. There are also 29 new drains to limit water in the soils, which can be a cause for landslides. This is just one piece of the I-70 West Vail Project. Crews are currently working on the eastbound bridge reconstruction near Mile Point 185. Construction will continue through 2026.

Here are some cool shots of the foundation work our team is doing on the Union Station Enhancement Project in Toronto. Some of the work in these photos includes our crews executing a critical lift operation at Union Station — placing a 19-metre reinforced rebar into one of the secant wall king piles adjacent to live tracks and public roadways — and a critical tieback operation to stabilize secant walls. This project will transform Greater Toronto's transportation network by providing two new train platforms, a new passenger concourse, reconstructing existing platforms to permit higher speeds and pedestrian walkways and adding more stairs and elevators.

Congratulations to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant’s (WIPP) Safety Significant Confinement Ventilation System (SSCVS) Project team for a job done well. TIC - The Industrial Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kiewit, recently completed on-time construction of the SSCVS at the Department of Energy’s WIPP. TIC is a SSCVS subcontractor at WIPP. The WIPP site is a deep geological repository for transuranic (TRU) nuclear waste generated in support of our national defense by other DOE sites around the country. WIPP site operations mine an ancient salt formation 2,150 feet below the surface to create storage areas for TRU waste containers. The new SSCVS will significantly enhance airflow quality in the underground areas with a new high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) ventilation system, enabling simultaneous mining, waste placement and mining operations. TIC’s established NQA-1 quality program and realigned efforts with major vendors, following their bid-build project recovery assignment, quickly mobilized self-perform craft and equipment to mitigate project delays. They effectively applied resources in the remote yet competitive labor market of New Mexico.
