“I feel so empowered, and we received great advice from women who have been exactly where we are. It’s amazing to be here with 100 other women. You actually feel like we’re the future — raising our hands and making an impact, not only in the industry but in our own lives.” - Andrea Ordonez, Purdue University Student/Summit attendee Our Future Women in Kiewit Summit attendees say it best. The summit continues to leave a lasting impact, inspiring more women to confidently pursue a career in construction and engineering. Thanks to all the attendees who took time away from their busy schedules to join us at Kiewit University in Omaha, Nebraska, earlier this month, and to all the employees who planned and participated in the event. ??

Our team on the Highway 5 Reinstatement Project in British Columbia is honored to receive two prestigious industry awards for the restoration of this vital corridor. The first award is the 2024 Vancouver Regional Construction Association Gold Award in Civil/Industrial Construction over $25 million. The award recognizes projects that excel in budget and schedule management, innovative engineering, safety, stakeholder collaboration, quality, and inclusive practices while overcoming challenges to deliver outstanding construction results. The other award is the 2024 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence in the Transportation category. It honors projects that demonstrate technical innovation, complexity, and excellence while delivering sustainable and impactful benefits to communities. In the wake of the November 2021 torrential rainfall, critical highway infrastructure in BC was significantly damaged. Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt was completely closed, with six collapsed bridge spans and abutments and 24 sites impacted by debris or washout. To complete the permanent repairs, the Highway 5 (three bridges) project was executed by the Coquihalla Alliance Team comprised of owner, BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and the KEA5 Partnership – Kiewit and Emil Anderson as the constructor and Kiewit as the designer. In less than two years, the team designed and constructed six new permanent bridge crossings – Juliet, Jessica, and Bottletop Bridges – under budget, ahead of target schedule and with strong inclusion of local and Indigenous businesses. In addition to incorporating climate change resilience, more than 4,500 native plants were planted at these bridge sites to help return the environment to its natural landscape. This project exemplifies the power of partnership and the commitment to rebuilding stronger. We're proud to have played a role in this remarkable achievement. Thank you to our project partners and others involved in helping quickly rebuild this important piece of infrastructure for the community.

Introducing two new additions to our premier marine fleet – the Kiewit 206 and Kiewit 207. These ABS load-lined, 200-by-54-by-12-foot barges were designed, engineered and fabricated in-house, and launched at Kiewit Offshore Services in Ingleside, Texas. They will support a wide array of marine construction activities and are already included in several Gulf and East Coast pursuits.

North Star Infrastructure, a partnership between Kiewit and the T??cho Government, along with the Government of Northwest Territories, is proud to announce that we have been awarded the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnership’s 2024 Award for P3 Service Delivery for the T??cho All-Season Road project. This 96km all-season gravel highway replaces the existing ice road, connecting the First Nation T???ch? community of Whatì to the Northwest Territories’ all-weather Highway 3, approximately 170km northwest of Yellowknife. Since the commencement of P3 Service Delivery nearly three years ago, the T??cho All-Season Road has maintained zero availability or compliance failures. This project not only supports the infrastructure goals of the Government of the Northwest Territories but also significantly enhances the quality of life for T???ch? citizens. The project promotes economic growth while preserving local values, with all operations and maintenance labour performed by Indigenous personnel. North Star Infrastructure is honoured to receive this award. On behalf of Kiewit, our partners the T??cho Government, and the Government of Northwest Territories, we extend our gratitude to the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships for this recognition. Have you spotted Kiewit’s D.B. Patrick helping out around the new Pattullo Bridge site? The D.B. Patrick, a 303-ton heavy lift pile driver, is currently supporting the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project in British Columbia, specifically assisting with the installation of steel girders for the north approach. This new four-lane cable-stayed bridge will improve connections between New Westminster and Surrey, providing wider lanes for both passenger and commercial vehicles, dedicated walking and cycling lanes, and enhanced safety features. We are supporting Fraser Crossing Partners, a joint venture between ACCIONA and Aecon Group Inc., by contributing our D.B. Patrick, staff and craft employees to this significant infrastructure development.
