"Together, we can do big things when we work together."
Those were the words my oldest daughter shared on her sixth birthday when she asked Emily and me if, instead of presents, she could ask her friends to donate to help open kidSTREAM Children's Museum.
There wasn't a more fitting encouragement to share on the day we celebrated kidSTREAM’s groundbreaking, surrounded by city leaders, corporate partners, community advocates, educators, families, and friends who have played a role in bringing us to this moment. This wasn’t just a groundbreaking for a building. It was a big step toward increasing access and investing in the future of thousands of children across our region, children who will soon walk through the doors of their very own local children's museum, discover their passions, and see new possibilities for themselves.
It was a moment that proved something powerful, that when a community works together, big things can happen. This dedicated, committed, and generous group has seen the need and worked together to do something big that will change the life trajectories of children for generations to come.
And that brings me back to my daughter’s words. Who is your "we"? And what big thing will you do together?
I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead as we start construction and move closer to opening the museum later this year. To everyone who has been part of the kidSTREAM journey - our growing staff, my fellow board members past and present, my colleagues at Amgen and the Amgen Foundation who have joined in giving of their time and their resources, the City of Camarillo, our incredible local partners that make up a growing ecosystem of organizations investing in the futures of children, and most importantly, my family, thank you.
Together, we are doing big things. And the best is yet to come.
