?? KIDS TOO is hosting a Policy Info Session to raise awareness for one of our top issues: Educator Sexual Misconduct. ?? More laws are needed to protect another vulnerable population in schools: students who are 18 years old and older, including kids with disabilities who often remain in high school through age 22. ?? We invite IL Senator Don Harmon's 39th District constituents to learn about a bill (HB4241) that would protect older teens in high school from predatory adults. This week has been one that advocacy groups like KIDS TOO are celebrating: the US Senate passed two critical pieces of legislation that adds protections for children and teens online and on devices. ??About COPPA 2.0: The Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0) bans online companies from collecting personal information from users under 17 years old without their consent. It bans targeted advertising to children and teens and creates an eraser button for parents and kids to eliminate personal information online. The bill also establishes a Youth Marketing and Privacy Division at the FTC. ??About KOSA: The Kids Online Safety Act provides children and parents with the tools, safeguards, and transparency to protect against online harms. It establishes a duty of care for online platforms and requires them to activate the most protective settings for kids by default, providing minors with options to protect their information, disable addictive product features and opt-out of personalized algorithmic recommendations. ?? The next step is for these bills to pass through the House of Representatives. ?? We've been advocating for ALL students who need protection from predatory adults in schools. #Illinois HB4241 aligns with 15 other states that make it criminal for an educator to have sexual relations with students who are ages 18+.
