In this video, Paisley Lucas, founder of Mood Lactation Partners and Curator of the Black Birth Collection, breaks down why her work is critical. ?? Black women are significantly more likely to die due to pregnancy-related causes than white women. This disparity is even more egregious in Wisconsin, where Black women are five times more likely to die due to pregnancy-related causes than white women. This disparity persists regardless of income or education. Governor Evers has proposed several measures that would help address Black maternal mortality in his state budget. Visit & follow @blackbirthcollection to learn more about how you support. Then, visit kidsforward.org to learn more about how an equitable budget can help pregnant folks in Wisconsin.

Simply put, President Trump cut taxes in his first term, which mostly benefited the wealthy few. Now he and Congressional leaders want to make those cuts permanent. But, those tax cuts, which will benefit his rich friends the most, have to come from somewhere. Because they’ve promised not to cut Medicare or Social Security, Medicaid, the nation’s health insurance and long-term care safety net, is on the chopping block. Visit kidsforward.org to learn more and let your legislators know - Medicaid cuts harm families.

Building on the solid foundation federal Medicaid dollars provide our state, the Governor’s proposed budget invests in Wisconsinites’ health and takes important first steps to address racial, economic, and health disparities: https://lnkd.in/gYxWxJjA

With everything happening nationally, why pay attention to the state budget? We get it. But what happens at the national level will deeply impact decisions our state legislators will have to make. And with some of the most egregious racial and economic disparities in the country, fighting for every kid in Wisconsin is still a battle worth waging. So, what is the state budget and how does it impact you #statebudget #wisconsin #election #wielection

In February, Governor Evers named 2025 the “Year of the Kid†while introducing his proposed budget. ? We’re thrilled to hear it! ? We look forward to working with both sides of the aisle to ensure that this state budget includes *every* kid in Wisconsin. ? Join us to hear our take on the state budget: https://lnkd.in/g_8t_zY7

As you have probably heard, the US House passed its budget resolution, which commits the House to $2 trillion in total cuts and a minimum of $880 billion cuts assigned to the committee that oversees Medicaid. Now, committees will start the process of deciding what cuts to make and writing the details into legislation. These cuts are widely anticipated to come from the Medicaid program. We knew that we had a long, hard fight ahead of us, but too many lives are at stake not to try. The good news? Congress is hearing loud and clear from so many of you! Ya'll made it as hard as possible for them - it just squeaked by along party lines, but barely. Battle's over, but the war isn't. Here at Kids Forward, we're not giving up, and we hope you don't either. #medicaid #congress #healthcare #healthcareforall #HealthcareForAll

There's so much worth fighting for in this world. The KF team and board wanted to share why we continue to fight for our communities. TOMORROW (Tuesday, Mar 4th) is the #CSWBigShare, and there's never been a more critical time to stand up for and donate to BIPOC-led and racial justice-focused organizations here: https://ow.ly/LxOL50V9z4E If you have the means, we’re asking our supporters to dig deep this year. The federal funding freeze, and its ripple effects on the philanthropic community, is hitting many groups particularly hard. This comes at a time of unprecedented dismantling and pushback of basic human rights, when standing up for communities of color and those furthest from opportunity is more critical than ever before. Visit https://ow.ly/LxOL50V9z4E to donate to Kids Forward and other BIPOC-led organizations serving our communities.

While the wealthy few rig the system to benefit them, Wisconsinites are left looking for someone to falsely blame for their economic struggles - most often it's immigrants. Today, the WI Assembly Cme on Criminal Justice & Public Safety will consider a bill that would push local law enforcement into harmful roles they were never meant to play — tools of mass deportation: https://ow.ly/vfw650V6XkY. This bill doesn’t make us safer. It only erodes trust between law enforcement and communities. People will be less likely to report crimes or cooperate with the police if they fear being handed over to ICE for something unrelated. Thx to Governor Evers, who's already vowed to veto it. But, legislators need to hear from us too - this won't be the last attack on immigrants in Wisconsin. Can you take 5 minutes to send a message to your legislator?

Over the past several weeks, our team has been lobbying state and federal legislators, educating them on the how critical Medicaid is for Wisconsin families and urging them to protect it. This week, it's all hands on deck. Leaders in the House of Representatives are planning to propose a budget resolution to the House floor this week, potentially by tomorrow, February 25th. The budget proposal has plans that will slash a minimum of $880 billion from Medicaid. We won't sugarcoat it: this would be devastating for Wisconsin families. Do you have 5 minutes to contact your Congressional Representative and urge them NOT to cut Medicaid? CALL: 866-426-2631. As the nation’s largest health insurer, Medicaid ensures that one in three Wisconsin kids can go to the doctor, fill prescriptions, or get treatment for a serious illness like cancer, without their family going bankrupt. This is an especially important source of health coverage for small towns and rural areas nationwide. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g9mXiMuT
