  • Every 100 minutes, a man or woman goes to work, never returning home to their families and loved ones. It means that every day a child’s life is forever changed. Along with the grief of losing a parent or the stress of caring for an injured parent, the children of these injured workers can no longer count on that parent’s income, and the likelihood that they can afford a college education decreases significantly. Kids’ Chance is bridging that gap by providing scholarships and support to the children of workers who have been injured on the job. We maintain the contact information so when the time comes to consider higher education options, we/they can reach out and connect these kids with the appropriate Kids' Chance state organization. If you're the parent or guardian of a child who qualifies, or if you know someone who may be eligible, please share this link with them: https://lnkd.in/gKX67Urw #KidsChance #scholarships

  • Chase knew from an early age that his future was in sports.? “Since the day I came out of the womb, I had a football in my hand,” he joked. Chase’s active childhood was filled with practices and tournaments for jiu-jitsu, wrestling, baseball, and football, or riding bikes and playing games with his neighborhood friends.?? That all changed three days after his eleventh birthday, when Chase received the news while away at summer camp that his father had been in an accident at work and passed away.? “My world was flipped upside down,” Chase said. “There was a huge transition period of figuring out how to get back to my day-to-day life while dealing with this.”? After the accident, Chase found comfort and stability in his “Superwoman” mother, Marcia. “She made sure I was taken care of every day — working with my coaches to get me to practice and ensuring I was at the places I needed to be to keep that normalcy.”? But behind the scenes, Marcia struggled with her family’s new financial reality. After experiencing unemployment and difficulty obtaining her husband’s full pension upon his death, she became deeply concerned about providing for her son — a concern that unfortunately remained consistent throughout Chase’s middle school and high school years.?? When it came time for Chase to attend Ball State University in Indiana, Marcia and Chase both knew that there was enough money in Chase’s education fund to cover his first year of college. But, what then? “I was considering working weekends,” Marcia admitted, “and doing whatever I needed to do to make sure he could graduate.”? A new path forward emerged when she heard from the Fallen Linemen Foundation — a national organization that supports families of fallen electrical workers — which introduced her to Kids’ Chance. Through?Kids’ Chance of Indiana (KCIN), Chase was able to receive a “life-changing” scholarship within weeks of applying.? For Chase, the Kids’ Chance scholarship became just as much of an emotional relief as it was a financial one for him and his family. “Knowing that my mom didn't have to worry anymore, that was huge. I could go through my day and know that she isn't stressing anymore, and that things were taken care of. It just propelled me all the way through my four years at Ball State.” With a degree in sports administration, Chase’s dream eventually became a reality: he now works at the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).? “My dream career was always to work in sports. Kids' Chance allowed me to pursue that dream,” Chase said. “It is an amazing organization that has drastically changed my life.” Now he and Marcia do all they can to educate others about Kids’ Chance and its mission to provide scholarships to the children of parents who’ve been injured on the job.? https://lnkd.in/grgwk_Dq

  • At Kids’ Chance of Indiana, we give kids a chance at a better future by providing scholarships and support to the children of works who have been injured on the job. We envision a future when all affected children can complete their education and pursue their desired career path. MEET ONE OF OUR FAMILIES: I'm Rodney, and I used to be a wind turbine technician. My life has always been filled with a passion for travel and a bit of a sneaker obsession! But more importantly, I am a devoted father to two wonderful children and the husband of the most incredible and loyal woman I've ever known. However, my life took a dramatic turn 2 ? years ago. A seemingly routine day at work turned into a nightmare when a safety switch failed, causing the components I was working on to re-energize. I woke up in the hospital three weeks later, only to discover I had lost both my arms. In those harrowing three weeks, my life as I knew it was shattered. I didn't just lose my arms; I lost my career, my sense of self, my patience, my dreams, and, most heartbreakingly, my desire to live. The accident didn’t just affect me; it sent shockwaves through my entire family. We had to completely rethink our lives, from our day-to-day living to our financial stability. The plans we had for our children's college education suddenly seemed uncertain, and the future looked frightening. The road to recovery—both physically and mentally—has been incredibly challenging. It has fundamentally altered how we interact and communicate as a family. Every task, every plan, every dream has become more complicated. Yet, despite all these challenges, I feel profoundly blessed to be alive. Every day, I strive to navigate this new life, knowing that my children are watching my every move. I hope that one day, when they look back at all we’ve endured, they will see how these trials have made us stronger—not just as a family but as individuals. Our journey is far from over, but together, we’re learning to find strength in our struggles and hope in each new day.
