I’m incredibly excited to finally share that we’ve won an Innovate UK Smart Grant! ?? Smart Grants are notoriously competitive, with this round funding 46 projects out of 1,911 submitted applications through Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency. Our project was chosen for both its innovation and scalability, promising significant national and international impact. We look forward to collaborating with the Birmingham Energy Institute, leveraging their expertise to advance our biomass electrolysis technology. A special thanks to our COO, Carl Banbury, PhD, who spent countless weekends getting this grant across the line. His dedication and hard work were instrumental in securing this funding. And more exciting news - we are hiring! We’re looking for a Chemical Engineer to lead our scale-up efforts at Tyseley Energy Park in Birmingham. ? First company social with our growing team ? We started off with an introspective workshop on our company culture - reflected on the values we embody, the ones we want to avoid, and those we aim to develop further. Then it was time to challenge ourselves to an escape room! We managed to escape in 39 minutes out of the allotted hour, just shy of the top five all-time leaderboards! ??♀? After the escape room, we gathered for a wonderful dinner at Dishoom. The evening was a great opportunity to bond and relax together. Now, back to work ?? Really excited to bring on Matthew Bidwell, PhD as our Principal Scientist focusing on products at Ki Hydrogen! ? Matt holds a PhD in Chemistry from Imperial College London where he designed and synthesised photocatalysts for green hydrogen production and photoactive materials for organic solar cells. He was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at Imperial College London focusing on the electrochemical oxidation of waste biomass to green hydrogen and valuable products. Matt additionally has a background in technology commercialisation through his previous role as a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow. Matt has already made significant strides in identifying which valuable co-product to focus on, in addition to hydrogen, from both a commercial and technical lens.
