This 11-year-old is using a deeply personal motivation to drive her business.

“There’s really no reason for a nine-year-old to be on TikTok. There’s no benefit for a 10 or 11-year-old prepubescent child to be on Instagram internalizing terrible messages about body image or violence or politics that they don’t understand. The stubborn fact is that social media companies make more money when kids linger on sites longer,” Sen. Schatz said.

“They came and let us know that Paradise Cove was going to be sunsetted,” Makakilo-Kapolei-Honokai Hale neighborhood board chair Makana Paris said. “After that initial scoping a few years ago, they came back to the community and they basically gave us a rendering about what they’re thinking about doing in the area.”

“Yea, it’s a concern to me,” Transportation Services Director Roger Morton said. “Ridership is less than I would like personally.”
