We are excited to share some early results of our contribution to the FabaFood project ??: an innovative partnership together with Ebro Ingredients, Royal Agrifirm Group, ME-AT, and Flora Food Group. This collaboration is set to support the transformation of food production and consumption. Through the development of cutting-edge food-grade faba beans(also called fava beans), FabaFood is leading the charge in creating sustainable, plant-based alternatives for meat and dairy that are tasty and nutritious while also being environmentally friendly. ?? This initiative represents a major support in advancing towards a more sustainable food system, offering benefits to farmers, processors, and consumers alike. Curious about how FabaFood wants to revolutionize the future of plant-based proteins? ?? We can share some of the first new faba bean variants that we have already identified: reduced internode length (=stronger shoot) and increased bean size! See the pictures below. We are excited to also learn the results for new variation in quality traits soon. And you? Discover the FabaFood story on our website: https://lnkd.in/erDi87nS The FabaFood project is part of the ERDF 2021-2027 East Netherlands program and is an outcome of the?Bean Deal. The ERDF 2021-2027 East Netherlands program strengthens the innovative power in the East Netherlands region and, thus, the earning capacity of the East Netherlands business community. In addition, it contributes to solutions in the energy transition. The program is co-financed by the European Union.

We are proud to be partner in CropXR. Here's one of the exciting projects in CropXR: the Demonstrator. The team aims to develop a ‘data catalyst’, a model that can reproduce and predict seedling responses to temperature and drought stress. https://lnkd.in/g4J44WDT
CropXR aims to improve crop resilience. To reach this goal, different teams within the organisation work on specific questions. The Demonstrator team aims to develop a ‘data catalyst’. This novel approach facilitates studying plant resilience when a plant is exposed to a combination of stresses. The team develops model that can reproduce and predict seedling responses to temperature and drought stress. Learn more about the work of Demonstrator: https://lnkd.in/eVTu-yCy

This May, Anna Dumitriu will participate in and contribute to 'Art and Science of the Faba Bean' at the Norfolk & Norwich Festival in the UK. Anna has been an 'artist in residence' at KeyGene in preparation for her series of artworks that explore the history and future of the faba bean (Vicia faba) and how the bean can help mitigate climate change, improve food security, and fix nitrogen in the soil. The faba bean research at KeyGene, in which Anna participated, aims to boost the development of improved faba bean varieties that can support the so-called ‘protein transition’: from a meat-based to a plant-based diet that can better support human and animal health and our planet. https://lnkd.in/eJRZckPy
