??Check Your Dates! Some of you may know that I run an affiliate website promoting afternoon teas. I've been doing this for about 10+ years and it's a great little business. I was doing some SERPS checking and was delighted to see in the image below that for one of my London bus afternoon teas that it was the first organic position after the paid ads for my desired search term?? However, I had noticed that sales of this had been quite low ?? despite the top organic ranking. Then it hit me. If you have a look at the yellow highlighted text you will see that the date the page was uploaded to my website was 2023 ??. No wonder sales had dropped. Web visitors would have thought it was an old offer and not clicked through. Fortunately, a quick fix to the publishing date in the back end of the CMS rectified this and in a couple of days it will appear as 2025 - and with a bit of luck the affiliate sales will pick up again?? This is a good lesson to learn and is the very reason why, in previous companies, when talking to web developers, I have asked them to remove the date-stamp from blog articles. If people think they are looking at old content, they'll move on in favour of what they think is more up-to-date and relevant content. So, if you have ever-green content, check your dates. For news items, I tend to keep these with the date visible. Why not take a second to do some Googling of your own search terms and see where you are in the SERPS (search engine results pages). You may be surprised at what you see. ?? Searching to find your business online? ?? I recently had a small business owner ask me why their website wasn’t coming up in the search engines for their business service in their local area. When I looked at their website, whilst they had optimised their website for some key search terms, they hadn’t actually mentioned, in words, where they were based! They had an online contact form but no address showing. They were leaving it to Google’s psychic ??powers to reveal their website. And as we all know, whilst Google is very clever – it’s not psychic. Fortunately, a quick tweak to their main service landing page with the location mentioned in their ?? meta title, ??on the page itself, and sneaked into an ??image description, quickly got the desired result. If you are trying to get found for a service you are offering at a local level, be sure to include the actual locations within the text – it seems so obvious but in this instance was overlooked. Don’t forget to ??geo-target. It’s simple but effective. ??TOP TIP: Take advantage of Google’s FREE business listings to promote your services and location. ??TOP TIP: FIXING OFF-CENTRE EYES IN VIDEOS ?? One of the key elements of content marketing is making a connection with our audience. This has seen the increase of video creation – from webinars, podcasts or short, top-tips. I’ve helped in the creation of a few videos recently and one of the challenges was direct eye contact of the speaker with the camera – even with a teleprompter. I was delighted to be pointed in the direction of Veed, An AI eye contact app to redirect your eyes to the camera. What a gamechanger. I uploaded a video where the speaker was looking off-camera and within seconds the eyes were brought back to looking at the camera. It’s going to save hours of work having to re-record.
