We are joining municipalities across the U.S. to recognize the importance of aviation and its transformation throughout history, especially in the Florida Keys. Executive Director Richard Strickland thanked his staff and those who dedicate their working lives to Key West International Airport and Marathon International Airport Florida Keys - MTH. Key West International Airport, located at 3491 South Roosevelt Blvd. in Key West, Florida, serves travelers from all over the world. With six major airlines and more than 20 nonstop destinations, the airport serves more than 1 million passengers annually. In November 2022, the airport broke ground on the construction of a new $114 million passenger concourse. This concourse will be nearly 50,000 square feet in size and feature a new departures area, an upgraded security checkpoint, additional baggage areas, new gates and seven jet bridges. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

We are loving these numbers! August was a banner month for Key West International Airport as it soared past the 1 million passenger mark and crushed last year’s count by 94,942 travelers. Year to date, 1,014,858 passengers have traveled through EYW, an increase of 10.3 percent over the same time period last year. For the month of August, the passenger count increased by 9.4 percent year over year. Seasonal Service Update American Airlines has expanded dates for nonstop service from Boston to Key West this holiday season and into 2025. Starting Saturday, November 16, 2024, American will offer direct, roundtrip flights on its 76-seat Embraer 175. Additional flights have been added on Saturdays through March 29, 2025. The flight lands in Key West at 1:00 p.m. with the return flight landing at Boston's Logan International Airport at 4:36 p.m. On Monday, October 7, 2024, American will resume its daily direct service to Dallas (DFW) on the Embraer 175. On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, American will resume its second daily flight to Washington’s Reagan National Airport, also on the 76-seat Embraer 175. JetBlue Airways will resume its seasonal service from Boston’s Logan International Airport to Key West on Thursday, October 17, nonstop on the 140-seat Airbus A220-300. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines will return with nonstop service to New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) in November and December, respectively. United Airlines will resume nonstop daily service to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) in late October on mainline 737-700 aircraft. Thursday, August 29, 2024, marked a turning point in the ongoing Concourse A project at Key West International Airport when the first of eight passenger boarding bridges was installed.? ? The fully enclosed, high-performance glass boarding bridges manufactured by ThyssenKrupp cost roughly $1 million each and provide for an air-conditioned boarding process. They’re built to hurricane impact standards and were largely constructed in the U.S.A.?? ? “The glass boarding bridges approximate that Old World feel and immediate view of the beauty of the Florida Keys the moment you leave the aircraft,” said Matt Dubbe, Mead & Hunt National Design and Market Leader of Architecture who was on site for the installation Wednesday.? ? “This marks a historic new beginning for the safety and efficient operations of passenger travel in Key West,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports. ? Installation of the boarding bridges will continue over the next several months, followed by interior buildout. Concourse A is expected to open in Spring 2025. The new 48,000-square-foot concourse will include several elements to improve the level of service for passengers, such as new concessions: a Chili’s restaurant; Southern Point Bar; Farm 2 Air Market; and a new First Call Beach Bar.? The overall program also includes expansion of additional baggage areas and devices; new airline ramp/office spaces; an expanded security checkpoint with four lanes; and more. Key West International Airport’s airlines increased seat capacity late last year, and more passengers are paying for those seats – 87,249 more passengers so far this year to be exact. The most recent passenger tally shows an increase of 10.4 percent year to date compared to 2023, bringing the passenger count to 925,729 passengers so far this year. Five out of EYW’s six commercial airlines saw significant increases year over year as of July with United Airlines seeing a staggering 45.8 percent increase in passengers year to date. ? “We had predicted a robust 2024, and so far it has proven itself to be just that. We continue to aim high and draw passengers to the Florida Keys,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports. ? “Key West International Airport is an economic engine and it continues to excel as evidenced by these numbers,” said Mayor Holly Raschein. ? The month of July alone saw an 8.5 percent increase compared to last year at 106,027 passengers for the month.? Air travel to the Florida Keys has soared this summer with the 1-million-passenger mark in clear view at EYW. “We continue to aim high and strive for excellence,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports, regarding a 10.7 percent bump year to date as of June. “The first half of the year has been a huge success as we continue to break previous records." 819,702 passengers used the airport from January to June, shattering previous YTD records. June alone saw a 7.8 percent increase year over year at 105,523 passengers for the month. !Seasonal Service Alert! Some of EYW’s six major airlines have made seasonal service adjustments. Changes vary among airlines and at the time of this press release, they are as follows: Jet Blue will resume its daily nonstop service to Boston (BOS) on October 17 aboard the Airbus A220. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines will return with nonstop service to New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) in December. The passenger count at Key West International Airport is inching toward 1 million passengers so far this year. As of May, 714,179 passengers have used the airport, which is an 11 percent increase in total passengers year to date. In the month of May, 122,483 passengers used the airport, a 12 percent increase over the same month last year. Key West International Airport officials marked a major milestone in the ongoing Concourse A project Wednesday, June 5, hosting a topping off ceremony alongside project managers, consultants, and Monroe County Commissioners in what will be Concourse A come 2025. Following steel and roof completion (the cause for Wednesday's event), will be installation of the terminal’s glass curtainwall, anticipated to be complete by September of this year. The 48,802-square-foot concrete structure boasts eight glass jet bridges, new concessions, expanded TSA lines, state-of-the-art baggage carousels, airline offices and more. In addition, the new concourse will remain above storm surge and flood elevation and is designed to withstand 200 mph winds. “Years of planning have culminated in this moment, and this milestone wouldn't be possible without the dedication of countless individuals,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports, thanking design teams from McFarland Johnson and Mead & Hunt along with local contractors, construction workers, and consultants. “We are building on a legacy.” “This is an economic generator keeping our economy going,” said Monroe County Mayor Holly Raschein. “It is a big deal for the City of Key West, for Monroe County, and for all of those here today. This is a masterpiece and it is all coming together.” Robert Spottswood Sr., Executive Chairman of Spottswood Companies Inc., spoke of the work performed by NV2A Gulf Keystar, a joint venture, and touted the 280 jobs created by the project. “There were many challenges, but congratulations to everyone involved in this project,” he said. “I’d like to thank the airport’s design and consulting teams as well.” Overall project completion is set for Spring 2026.

Record February Bump Consistent With Q1 Expectations ? Passenger numbers at Key West International Airport for the month of February are 19.8 percent higher than the same month last year, and 17.8 percent higher than the year-to-date numbers of 2023. The passenger count is a record high for the month of February at EYW.? ? Numbers show 24,140 more passengers used the airport over the same month in 2023, bringing the total for the month to 145,957 combined enplanements/deplanements. ? The numbers are consistent with airport Executive Director Richard Strickland’s recent report to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners regarding airline seat capacity increasing 20.8 percent in the first quarter of the year. ? For the month, United Airlines accounted for the majority of seat growth as it?operates mainline 737-700?aircraft in Key West for the first time to?Newark, Washington, Chicago?and Houston. Key West International Airport is a proud sponsor and supporter of Special Olympics Florida and was on site Thursday, March 14, to cheer on athletes competing in the 2024 Unified Championship Schools soccer games at Big Pine Key Community Park. A $3,000 sponsorship check was presented to organizers and volunteers. The sponsorship is part of the airport’s community marketing program fostering goodwill throughout the Florida Keys with airport revenue funds.
