I'm not in journalism to win awards, but this particular trophy comes with a super sweet backstory. The Omaha metro recently rallied behind a local veteran who needed a little help to keep his family's home. Ron Hernandez also happens to be the founder of Moving Veterans Forward, a fantastic local organization. After we at KETV ran a story about his need for financial assistance, Cobalt Credit Union and the SAC Foundation stepped up to donate half of what he needed... the community also came together to back him. We're honored to be named the first-ever Television Station of the Year by the NEBRASKA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION. Congrats to the other finalists and to all of Nebraska's journalists who work hard every day to keep local news alive in our communities. KETV was also honored with Gold Awards for Best Newscast for KETV NewsWatch 7 at 6, Sean Everson was awarded Best Weathercast, 'Voices of Gen Z' won a Gold Award for Service to Children, our flood documentary and interactive digital work was honored with Best Use of Multimedia Journalism and the KETV Sports Team won Gold & Silver for Best On-the-Scene Sports reporting for March Madness coverage and our Road to the Title volleyball special from Tampa! The first-ever "First News from the Field" really knocked it out of the park! The KETV team took the show on the road to Charles Schwab Field Omaha for Opening Day of the NCAA Men's College World Series! We are incredibly grateful to MECA and the NCAA for the opportunity and their partnership and as Omaha's Weather Leader we're proud to be the Official Forecaster of the CWS! PLAY BALL!

Here's a sample of our reporting from the U.S.-Mexico border. It's been one of the most challenging and rewarding weeks of my career. Couldn't have asked for a better teammate than Eddie Messel! The Nebraska National Guard is helping secure the border about 20 miles north of Eagle Pass, Texas near the small town of Quemado. They observe and patrol a 5-mile stretch near the Rio Grande River 24/7 over the 90-day deployment.
