?? It is important for “the pro-democracy coalition to set aside their differences and act together to prevent authoritarians from trying to fracture that coalition… that is what authoritarians can often try to do best through divide and conquer strategies.” ?Earlier this month, Keseb hosted a virtual panel discussion with Lara Flint, Farbod Faraji, and Flávia Pellegrino on the topic of ensuring free, fair, and trusted elections. The panelists discussed effective strategies to contain, counter, and sustainably prevent the re-election of authoritarian leaders. Flávia and Farbod highlighted the need to leverage short, medium, and long-term strategies including building broad-based, responsive coalitions, driving structural reform, and holding anti-democratic actors accountable. ???Watch the video in English here: https://lnkd.in/estDa-S5 ???Watch the video with Portuguese interpretation here: https://lnkd.in/emVmbBvA If you are interested in more discussions on strategies for 21st-century democracy, there is still time to register for two virtual events taking place this month on the topics of grassroots strategies to combat election-related misinformation and invigorating and expanding civic power. ?Democracy Fellow Spotlight? Keseb Democracy Fellow Tessa Dooms of Rivonia Circle recently participated in an interview with The Voice of the Cape, where she commented on South Africa’s Government of National Unity (GNU). “We have no sense of what we are measuring the GNU against in terms of its plan and plan of action. Normally political parties make their manifesto known and through that we can hold them to account and ensure that they deliver on what they promised those voting for them, but this is not the case with the GNU,” Tessa shared.
