Every now and then, we benefit from a brief sojourn to reflect, recover and prepare for the future. ? My latest sojourn lasted two years. Kero thrived during that time — and my sole focus was developing deliverables, serving clients and navigating personal growth in my free time. That narrow focus left little time for community involvement, and gosh, did I miss it! Well, it's time — I'm getting back into community involvement! I recently met with the The City of Fargo to discuss citizen engagement opportunities, and am planning participation for events in the Twin Ports and Twin Cities. When it comes to our careers —?each of us has had one, or many, professionals who put their trust in us and transformed our trajectory. ? We lost my mentor Shawn Perich last year following a courageous battle with brain cancer —?and he's been on my mind lately. Shawn co-owned Northern Wilds Media / Magazine and was my first freelance client. There, I wrote the "North Shore Dish" dining column and drafted articles about news along the North Shore of Lake Superior. He taught me much about print journalism (as my previous experience had been primarily broadcast journalism), effective storytelling and how to hone my craft. He was an exceptional talent and I'll forever aspire to write as well as he did. And, he got me involved in the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA), and for that I am truly grateful.
