Visionary leadership to protect California's most precious resource.
关于我们
The Kern County Water Agency (Agency) was created in 1961 by a special act of the California State Legislature and serves as the local contracting entity for the State Water Project. The Agency participates in a wide scope of water management activities, including water quality, flood control and groundwater operations to preserve and enhance Kern County’s water supply—the main ingredient for the well-being of an economy. Over the years, the Agency has experienced extreme variations in water supply on both local and statewide fronts due to drought conditions, increasing environmental regulations in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and ever-expanding demands on the state’s water system. Making the best possible use of existing water supplies and protecting these supplies from external threats have become increasingly important. The Agency will continue to face these challenges by developing unique solutions and striving for excellence in technical, administrative, policy-making and financial arenas.

The agency is proud to partner with Project WET to bring hands-on water education to students and educators, inspiring the next generation of water stewards for years to come.
???Celebrating 10+ Years of Inspiring Water Education!??? Bakersfield City School District’s Extended Learning Program and Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4 (ID4) have been partnering for over a decade to empower after-school educators with hands-on water education through Project WET workshops. Each year, up to 20 activity leaders attend the workshop, gaining tools to make complex water science topics fun and engaging for their students. With a focus on STEM, arts, and youth development, this program reaches over 5,000 students annually—sparking curiosity and creativity in future engineers, coders, scientists, and leaders! Here’s what educators had to say: ???“Now I can make a difficult subject easy to digest by turning it into a fun activity!” ???“Great lessons to do with the students!” ???“Very easy to use and engaging!” A big thank you to ID4 and BCSD for their dedication to shaping the future of water education! ???? #STEMLearning #WaterEducation #ProjectWET #EnvironmentalEducation #MakingLearningFun #AfterSchoolLearning #TeacherDevelopment #Sustainability

Today, DWR announced our planned monthly update to the State Water Project allocation forecast for 2025. The allocation has increased to 20 percent of requested supplies, up from 15 percent in mid-December. Allocations are updated monthly as snowpack, rainfall, and runoff information is assessed, with a final allocation typically determined in May or June. As the winter progresses, if California sees an increase in rain and snowfall, the allocation forecast may increase. The Kern County Water Agency's Improvement District No. 4 (ID4) recently held a Project WET: Water Education Today workshop for local high school teachers. This comprehensive workshop provided educators with valuable insights into the historical and current challenges of water management?and the various career opportunities available in the water industry. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a variety of activities that encouraged experiential learning and fostered inquiry-based exploration. These activities were designed to help teachers effectively convey the complexities of water issues to their students in an engaging manner. A highlight of the workshop was an informative tour of the Henry C. Garnett Purification Plant, accompanied by a visit to its on-site laboratory where teachers had the chance to observe the scientific processes involved in water purification firsthand. ID4 values its partnership with the Kern High School District and its dedication to educating the next generation about the importance of Bakersfield’s water.
