We had the opportunity to host new Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) Director, Dr. Karen Morrison, and Deputy Director of Communications & Outreach, Leia Bailey, during their visit to Shafter for the SprayDays Launch! The first stop was Sill Farms, where Ben Sill gave a great demonstration of regenerative farming with sheep grazing through his almond orchards. ???? Next, we visited Holtermann Farms, where Tim Holtermann discussed the benefits of cover crops and bee-friendly foliage. ???? Having these conversations between DPR and the Farm Bureau is key to fostering collaboration and showcasing our local practices that are benefiting both the environment and agriculture. #DPR #RegenerativeFarming #KernCountyFarmers #CoverCrops

Last week, we hosted our 41st Annual Farm Day in the City event where we welcomed almost 5,000 elementary students and over 50 schools to learn about agriculture. ?? ???? Over two days, students had the opportunity to engage with hands-on exhibits, explore farm machinery, experience animal encounters, and much more! This free educational event provided students with the opportunity to learn about the importance of agriculture and its impact on our daily lives. ?????? A huge thank you to our 40+ incredible exhibitors for providing engaging demonstrations and enriching our students’ understanding of agriculture. We’d also like to say thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, @grimmfamilycenter and our other sponsors that played a large role in the success of this event. Lastly, we’d like to say thank you to all of the distinguished guests that attended our event to see how the Kern County Farm Bureau is educating our youth about the importance of agriculture. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Happy National Ag Day! ?? Last Friday, we got a head start on Ag Week with the Greater Bakersfield Chamber Leadership Class of 2025. It was a day full of learning, exploration, and connection across the ag community! ?? First Stop: Arvin Edison Water Storage District with David Zaragoza – AEWSD General Superintendent, where we learned about all things water and its importance in ag. ?? Second Stop: Murray Family Farms, where we picked citrus and learned about the diverse crops they grow. Owner/Founder Steve Murray and Ag Commissioner Glenn Fankhauser joined us for an insightful Lunch & Learn! ?? Final Stop: Sunridge Nurseries Inc. with Adam Lovgren – VP of Operations, where we explored the grafting process of grapevines and the nursery’s role in ag production. It was incredible to share with over 30 individuals from various industries the vital role agriculture plays in our economy, the challenges facing the industry, and how we can all work together to support its future. ????
