We’re in Kentucky and not in California, so why should we care that Governor Newsom proposed regulations last week banning hemp products with *any* detectable intoxicating/psychoactive levels in his state? If the goal was to protect consumers by getting unsafe conversions off the market, such an extreme step was unnecessary. Although we don’t make Delta-8 or any other so-called synthetic hemp products, we’re not fundamentally opposed to others doing so — as long as they’re safe, and as long as they’re marketed and sold responsibly. The fact of the matter is that hemp genetics with zero total THC do not yet exist. Yes, with great effort and cost, we can remove most of the THC from our organic hemp and stay true to our cGMP practices. But why put us through this when we’re not the bad actors, and when consumers don’t want it? Far from making a quick buck, we have invested significantly in a company with strong compliance, rigorous testing, and a keen focus on consumer safety. We fundamentally believe it is the duty and responsibility of our federal government to keep unsafe products off the market. In the absence of national rules, it makes sense that states would take action to keep their citizens safe, but for heaven’s sake, we can be more thoughtful than Gavin Newsom.
