As graduation season nears, my inbox has been filling with questions from students asking how to implement dollar cost averaging in their 401k and Roth IRA. YES, we can pause and acknowledge how awesome it is that non-finance students are asking about dollar cost averaging ?? ?? . In non-finance terms, a nurse or an engineer who is contributing into her or his 401k, Roth IRA or Retirement Plan every paycheck is already dollar cost averaging. In finance terms it means buying a little bit, a lot of times. NOTE: Our nurse or engineer who is contributing every paycheck should focus not on 1-week or 1-month performance of their investments, BUT on being really good at their job (because this is what will allow her/him to KEEP contributing). ? ?
